Nature and trails for active and relaxing days

A prominent destination is Eden Park. The five-acre nature park has a three-quarter-mile walking trail that leads through native trees and a wildlife habitat. The park is open daily from sunrise until 10:00 p.m.

West Park also offers an opportunity to spend time outdoors with its paved walking trail. Those who would like to combine different landscape impressions during their stay can also include Dexter Fishing Lake in their plans. It includes an eleven-acre natural area for community fishing. An accessible fishing pier adds to the amenities.

Water, play and activity

For a day of swimming, the Aquatic Center offers a swimming pool with a children's play area and slides. Changing rooms, restroom facilities and a concession stand are also available. Families can intentionally plan this visit as a separate activity, while other days can be devoted to the parks or lakes.

Boon Park has accessible playground equipment. Dexter City Lake has an accessible kayak launch. Only non-motorized watercraft are permitted on this lake. This rule is important to consider when planning an outing if you would like to spend time on the water there. The range of options—from the playground and swimming pool to the lake—allows you to tailor your stay to the interests of your travel group.

History, markets and local events

The Heritage House was built in 1870 and provides a historic point of reference for your stay. The Dexter Welcome Center & Train Depot Museum is located in a restored historic train depot. If you would like to visit the museum, you are asked to contact Dexter City Hall to arrange an appointment. Visits and community events at the Dexter Welcome Center are scheduled by appointment.

You can discover local produce and crafts at the Dexter Farmers Market. Vendors there sell fresh farm vegetables, homemade jam, desserts and baked goods, as well as other fresh products, local goods and handmade items from the area. In the 2026 season, the market will take place every Thursday through September at East City Park.

Another possible highlight is the annual Stoddard County Fair in Dexter. It features entertainment, rides, exhibits, livestock and food stands. Since no specific day of attendance is assumed, the event can be included in your travel plans as a seasonal occasion.
