Hiking trails with their own character

Sainte-Rose combines varied routes with cultural and historical themes. The Boucle du centre passes along the Sentier des Laves through a bamboo grove to the Port Abri-Pêche et de Plaisance de la Marine. Follow the Chemin de la Marine to return to the starting point. The sequence of the loop makes its route easy to recognise: the trail passes through the grove to the harbour, then returns along a separately named section. If you enjoy paying attention to trail routes and individual stops while hiking, you can use this route as a guide.

The Boucle du petit-Brûlé via le Layon EDF offers a different experience. It begins with a steep climb over rocky terrain; after that, the route is described as pleasant all the way to the end. When choosing a hike, you can weigh up different features: for the Boucle du centre, these are the stops and the return route; for the Boucle du petit-Brûlé, they are the steep, rocky start and the route that follows. As trail conditions can change, check the current condition of the trails before setting out.

History, family and rum

Distillerie REIMONENQ connects the history of the REIMONENQ family with Sainte-Rose: the family established the distillery in the town in 1916 and still owns it. At the end of a visit to Distillerie REIMONENQ – Musée du Rhum, Reimonenq rums are sampled. The founding year, continued family ownership and tasting represent different aspects of the same destination: a historical connection and a taste of the subject of rum.

The Sofaïa sulfur baths are located in the hills above Sainte-Rose. They were discovered after the 1843 earthquake and developed into showers in 1996. The dates mark different stages in the baths’ history: their discovery was followed by a later transformation. Sofaïa therefore offers a different historical perspective from the distillery, whose history is shaped by continued family ownership.

The two histories have different emphases: the distillery focuses on the continuity of a family, while Sofaïa’s discovery and later development can be considered separately. If you are interested in local history, you can weigh up whether you would like to learn more about the connection between the family and the distillery, or about the development of the baths. Both subjects show that Sainte-Rose can be explored through more than just its hiking trails.

Plan your trip around your interests

Hiking trails and historical themes can provide different starting points for planning your holiday. Consider whether you would like your days to focus more on hiking, cultural history or a mix of both. This priority can also guide your choice of a holiday rental in Sainte-Rose: tailor your search to the kind of stay you want and the experiences that appeal to you most.
