Parc des Sept-Chutes offers viewpoints overlooking the Rivière Kamouraska and its waterfalls. A hiking trail of about six kilometres runs along the river. The Rivière Ouelle also shapes the region: since 1966, it has held the status of a salmon river. If you’re interested in mushrooms, Les sentiers d’Ixworth has a mycological discovery trail with interpretive panels about the variety of local mushrooms.

Trails with different highlights
The trails in Kamouraska vary in length and focus. The 4.3-kilometre Sentier du Cabouron follows the Cabouron in Saint-Germain and has interpretive panels and a viewpoint. The Circuit du Cabouron, by contrast, is an 8.5-kilometre loop through the village and along Rang Mississipi. In Mont-Carmel, the four-kilometre Sentier culturel connects the village centre with Lac Saint-Pierre and passes cultural stops along the way. Les sentiers d’Ixworth also includes a 2.5-kilometre loop through the unspoiled area of Saint-Onésime-d’Ixworth.
Cultural heritage and regional discoveries
The Site patrimonial du Berceau-de-Kamouraska was Kamouraska’s first civil and religious centre and developed between 1692 and 1791. This heritage site includes a former cemetery and a memorial chapel built of fieldstone. The Noyau institutionnel de Kamouraska is a Catholic heritage complex comprising a church, a former monastery, a cemetery and a park. Both sites offer a way to explore the region’s religious and civil history alongside its landscapes and activities.
The Maison culturelle Armand-Vaillancourt regularly holds art workshops for all ages. Upstairs, there are also two contemporary art exhibition rooms. The Musée régional de Kamouraska presents immersive exhibitions across three floors, led by a guide in period costume, and also offers a guided tour of the village. If you want to focus on art, exhibitions or a guided walk, the museum offers a different way to experience the region than its hiking trails.
Regional products are also part of the discoveries: the Espace Découverte & Boutique Gourmande at Côté Est showcases regional products, house specialties and natural wines. In Rivière-Ouelle, the Pointes aux Orignaux and aux Iroquois have been designated a “paysage culturel patrimonial” by Quebec since August 18, 2021.
