Point Edward
Accommodation in Point Edward
Point Edward brings together the scenery of the St. Clair River and the distinctive silhouette of the Bluewater Bridges. From Waterfront Park, which sits beneath the bridges, you can look out over the river. In this special way, the water and the structure shape the character of the place. If you’re looking for a destination with river views and interesting things to discover, Point Edward offers more than just one attraction.
River Scenery and Trails
The Blue Water Bridge spans the St. Clair River between Point Edward and Port Huron in the US state of Michigan. The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail also passes through the community: a multi-use trail runs beneath the international Bluewater Bridge to Waterfront Park. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you can include this section in your stay and combine a visit to the park with views of the distinctive bridge landscape.
Waterfront Park covers 13 acres and is located on Alexandra Ave. north of Michigan Ave. In the broader region, the Waterfront Trail in Sarnia and Point Edward is 26 km long in total. Of this, 9 km runs off-road and 17 km follows roads with low traffic volumes. These figures refer to the trail in the Sarnia and Point Edward area, not just the section by the park. Depending on whether you mainly want to explore the community or also take in the wider region, you can plan your stay accordingly.
Culture and Special Places
The Souls Memorial commemorates generations of ancestors who gathered at this place to trade, celebrate, teach and take part in seasonal spiritual ceremonies. The memorial’s garden plaza features traditional symbols, shapes and colours of the Anishinaabek Medicine Wheel. Alongside river scenery and recreational activities, Point Edward therefore also offers a cultural connection to the history of this place.
Another distinctive attraction is the Bluewater Anglers fish hatchery in Point Edward. Its public outdoor area includes a pond where visitors can feed the fish. During the hatchery’s operating cycle, Bluewater Anglers offers tours to organizations on request. The organization also holds a two-day open house at the hatchery every spring, including tours of the facility. The hatchery is located just north of the Bluewater Bridge.
Things to Do in the Community
Waterfront Park has playground equipment and a soccer field. Point Edward also has a splash pad. If you’re travelling with children, you can factor in these recreational options; they complement the river views with a range of activities in the community. Tennis courts are located at the end of Monk Street next to the sidewalk.
Summer activities on the water include fishing tournaments; Point Edward also hosts an annual sailboat race. The Starlight Casino Point Edward offers live entertainment. These options appeal to different travel interests, from time outdoors to an evening of live performances.
Markets and Seasonal Experiences
A farmers’ market is held seasonally beneath the Bluewater Bridge, and the Moonlight Market is also located there. The Point Edward Moonlight Farmers’ Market is a producer-focused farmers’ market offering meat, produce, baked goods, maple syrup, herbs and a range of specialties. Seasonally, visitors can also enjoy fries from food stands beneath the bridge. If you’d like to include local products and market stalls in your trip, this part of community life is a fitting addition to activities along the river.
