Canim Lake is 37 kilometres long and is one of the larger lakes in the Cariboo. Nearby, lakeside scenery meets waterfalls and forest trails. Canim Falls is at the eastern end of the lake in Wells Gray Park; Canim Beach Park is also on the lakeshore. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, you can first consider whether water activities or nature excursions will be the focus of your stay.

Lakeshore, Views and Wildlife
Canim Beach Park covers six hectares. From its shore, you can look across Canim Lake to the rising Quesnel Highlands and Cariboo Mountains. Mule deer, coyotes, beavers, river otters and black bears may be found around the park; waterfowl, hawks and songbirds are also among the wildlife you might see. Sightings aren’t guaranteed, but the landscape views and variety of possible wildlife encounters give the lakeshore its own character.
The pebble beach at Canim Beach is considered a place to swim and cool off on hot summer days. Keep in mind that the lakebed drops off steeply from the shore and swimming conditions can vary. No lifeguards are on duty. This makes it possible to distinguish the destination’s summer beach experience from excursions to waterfalls and forest trails.
Water Activities at Canim Lake
Popular activities on the lake include fishing, paddling, swimming, picnicking and waterskiing. Other lakes in the area are also popular fishing spots; a valid licence is required to fish. If you’d like to explore the shoreline, you can do so by canoe, motorboat or sailboat. Private resorts in the area may offer motorboats, canoes, kayaks or paddlewheel boats for rent. It’s best to contact providers directly to ask what rentals are available.
Waterfalls and Trails in the Surrounding Area
Lookouts at Canim Falls offer excellent views of the waterfalls. Short, easy trails lead to Canim Falls and Mahood Falls; Canim Falls can be reached on foot from the road in less than 30 minutes. A 30-minute walk leads to Deception Falls. More challenging options for hikers include trails to Whale Lake or Deception Falls. These details describe different destinations and walking times, so you can choose excursions based on how much time you’d like to spend.
The trail to the waterfalls at the eastern end of the lake starts at a forest service road along the south side; there’s a small gravel parking area at the trailhead. The Hendrix Falls Low Mobility Trail is about 350 metres long and passes through a forested area to a viewpoint overlooking the waterfalls. The Hendrix Creek Waterfall Trail is a separate trail: a five- to ten-minute walk leads to a viewing platform overlooking Hendrix Creek Falls. Check current trail conditions before visiting.
Seasons and Finding Accommodation
The area around Canim Lake offers opportunities for hiking in summer and backcountry skiing in winter. These seasonal highlights can help with planning your trip, but don’t guarantee that a particular trail or place will be accessible. Canim Beach Park is about 43 kilometres northeast of 100 Mile House and can be reached via Canim Lake Road from Highway 97.
