The Akmeshit Cave is located within the rural district of Kokterek at the foot of the Karatau Mountains. The limestone cave is approximately 254 metres long, 65 metres wide and 25 metres high.
Experiences
Near Kokterek, the footpath leads to the Shukyrshak Waterfall. The walking route operates from May to September and can only be followed with an excursion guide. It is described as approximately 1.5 kilometres long, with a total duration of about 1.5 hours; this includes approximately one hour of walking and 30 minutes for stops.
Nature
Near Kokterek lies the Aksu-Zhabagly State Nature Reserve, with ten tourist routes for domestic and foreign visitors. Wild boars, Siberian ibex and Turkestan lynxes live in this nature reserve. The Aksu-Zhabagly Nature Museum contains more than 200 animal and bird exhibits, as well as entomological and botanical collections.
Geographical setting
The Aksu-Zhabagly Biosphere Reserve includes land in Tulkibas District. A total of 267 bird species and 52 mammal species have been recorded in the Aksu-Zhabagly Biosphere Reserve. In the wider regional surroundings of Kokterek are Gora Karabas, Gora Archevaya Shishka, Pik Bekisay and Gora Bokeytau.
