Rakusha: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

Anyone wishing to rent a vacation apartment in Rakusha can then continue searching for accommodation. Rakusha is also connected with Kazakhstan’s early oil industry heritage: Kazakhstan’s first Dossor–Rakushi–Caspian oil pipeline was built in 1912 and is recorded as being 60 km long.

History

By March 1917, the Rakusha station had begun oil production. A factory committee was active at the station, and the industrial infrastructure also included storage tanks and oil loading docks. Although the historic factory buildings in Rakusha have largely disappeared, the site remains important to the history of Kazakhstan’s first oil industry. Rakusha was founded in 1867 on the Caspian shore as a fishing settlement. The historic settlement on the Caspian Sea no longer existed by the end of the 1930s.

Water and Transport

In 1923–24, Emba used water transport to move freight between the Rakusha landing stage and Guryev. The motor ship Engineer Bogush supplied both Guryev and Rakusha.

In 1924, 95,000 tons of crude oil were pumped from Dossor to Rakusha station. In the same year, 77,800 tons of crude oil were transferred from Rakusha onto seagoing vessels. By 1924, the station had oil storage capacity of up to 164,000 tons. Rakusha was the main transshipment point for oil from the Dossor field.

Oil from Dossor reached Rakusha by pipeline and was loaded there onto sea barges. It was then shipped across the Caspian Sea to refineries in Astrakhan and Baku.

Traces

A cannon was found near Rakusha in 1936 and sold in 1940 to the newly opened local history museum in Guryev. The Rakusha cannon is a 12-pound cast-iron gun weighing 1,920 kilograms; it could fire balls weighing almost five kilograms up to a distance of 209 meters.
