The climbing area in Siat offers a variety of climbing routes and a small via ferrata for beginners and experienced climbers. At the Casa Sentupada gym, beginners and experienced climbers can train on the indoor climbing wall all year round. For planning your day, the climbing options can be distinguished by climbing area and indoor wall, as well as by the time available.
Nature and Trails
The Siat snowshoe hike is a moderately difficult circular route covering 6.1 kilometres, with 390 metres of ascent and descent respectively. The Siat snowshoe route follows forest and panoramic trails to the Cuolm Miez viewpoint, offers views across the Surselva and then returns to Siat. The Cuolms da Siat snowshoe route runs in the immediate vicinity of two wildlife quiet zones; visitors are asked to observe this requirement strictly.
The various trail details offer several points of comparison: distance, elevation gain, difficulty, trail type and views can be considered separately. When planning, you can place a snowshoe loop, a high-altitude trail and a longer circular route side by side as different trail types. The travel interests can deliberately remain side by side: a focus on sport differs from a day devoted to culture or cuisine, while winter trails and cycling add further distinct accents. These differences in particular help to organise the planned mix mentally without turning the individual offerings into a single uniform experience and while keeping the order of interests open.
The Cuolms da Siat circular route is 26 kilometres long and has 1,112 metres of ascent and descent respectively. The Siat–Falera winter hiking trail is an easy high-altitude trail on the southern side of the Surselva, offering plenty of sunshine as well as views of the surrounding mountains and the valley.
The Sogn Glieci church in Siat was built in the 12th century. The wall paintings still visible in the Sogn Glieci church date from the mid-17th century. Friberg Castle belonged to the noble family of the same name.
The places and trails can be arranged according to your interests: sporting activities, historic buildings, architecture and cuisine stand as distinct themes alongside one another. For considering the timing, year-round indoor training and winter-related trails are available as different points of reference.
The Hotel and Restaurant Ustria Steila is an architectural gem in the Surselva and was built by the Graubünden architect Gion A. Caminada. The cuisine at Ustria Steila focuses on regional, high-quality and seasonal products from the region.
For a holiday apartment in Siat, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions are among the details displayed side by side on accommodation pages. These details form a separate decision level alongside the destination’s travel interests: climbing, historic places, cuisine, winter trails and cycling. This allows accommodation details and daily interests to be considered separately, without combining them into a single selection criterion. The three details can be weighted differently depending on your travel plans.
Further destinations for regional orientation: Disentis/Mustér, Obersaxen, Igels, Sankt Martin, Schluein, Laax, Ilanz and Cumbels.
PostBus route 421 connects Ilanz with Siat and stops at the Siat, vitg bus stop.
