Dalstorp is a destination for travellers who want to combine a longer hike with natural and cultural history. The Jälmåleden trail leads through scenic surroundings, along the river and around Dalstorpasjön and Nittorpssjön lakes. There are also historic sites that give the stay a second, cultural-historical dimension. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore consider whether your trip should be shaped primarily by activity, scenery or discoveries related to Dalstorp’s history.

The Jälmåleden between the river, lakes and history

The Jälmåleden is a 35 km-long hiking trail. Its length is an important factor when planning your days and accommodation, as the route represents a clear focus on hiking. Dalstorp is considered a recommended starting point for the Jälmåleden; there are plenty of parking spaces there.

The combination of landscape and the past is particularly varied. The Jälmåleden passes burial grounds from the Viking Age and the Iron Age. It also passes industrial ruins from the industrial era of the 19th century. These sites give the hike more than just a scenic perspective: along the way, you encounter traces of different eras, while the trail also runs along the river and around two lakes.

Church and old church site

Dalstorp Church was built in 1964–65 according to plans by the Växjö architect Bent Jörgensen. It replaced a 19th-century church that was destroyed by fire in 1962. The present interior is characterised by black slate slabs, white bricks and sandblasted pinewood. The bronze altarpiece was created by the artist Jörgen Martinsson.

The nationally significant cultural environment of Dalstorp also includes industrial remains at the mouth of the Jälmån, including the remains of an ironworks. The medieval church site of Dalstorp, with its abandoned churchyard, is also part of this cultural environment. Dalstorp’s old church site lies by Dalstorpasjön. There, you can see the preserved sacristy with a burial chamber beneath it and the preserved cemetery. Anyone who wants to do more than hike on their trip and also explore historic sites at their leisure will find a distinct focus here.

Which accommodation suits your travel plans?

A holiday apartment or holiday home in Dalstorp can be selected sensibly according to your desired itinerary. For a hiking-focused trip, Dalstorp’s role as the starting point for the Jälmåleden is an obvious consideration. If, on the other hand, you want to combine culture and scenery, you can include the church, the old church site by Dalstorpasjön and the historic traces along the Jälmån in your plans. Families with different interests can thereby plan active and cultural days separately in their minds, rather than trying to fit all experiences into a single itinerary.

The 35 km-long Jälmåleden, the lakes and the cultural sites give Dalstorp a distinct character. When looking for accommodation, consider which of these aspects is decisive for your trip. Anyone who wants to compare the surroundings beyond Dalstorp can also include Ölsremma in their further orientation.
