Accommodation in Källö-Knippla
Källö-Knippla combines seaside experiences with a distinctive cultural landscape and a wide range of options for active or relaxing days away. On Knippla, the 1.5-kilometre “Slingan” loop runs along the sea, through vegetation and across rocky terrain. There is also a viewpoint with expansive views, sports facilities, bathing spots and harbour life shaped by the history of the area. This allows you to plan your trip entirely around your preferred pace.
Sea trail, views and activity
The “Slingan” loop is part of the Göteborgs skärgårdsled, which in turn forms part of the longer Kuststigen trail. Benches and tables are placed along the route, and there is also a large barbecue area. The route has been adapted for accessibility, although it includes some steeper sections. This combination is important when planning your day: you can combine the loop with breaks, but should take the steeper stretches into account when choosing your activities.
The Wideringen viewpoint is located at the highest point on Knippla. From there, the 360-degree view extends across islands, sea and horizon. For a refreshing swim, Tranbärsvikens badplats on the eastern side of Källö-Knippla is a good option. It has a diving tower, floating jetties and a toilet.
Sports and leisure for different types of holiday
On Knippla, you will find an outdoor padel court on Tranbärsvägen. There is also an outdoor gym beside the football pitch and bathing beach. Another option for shared leisure is the mini-golf course next to the outdoor terrace. By the café in the harbour, there is a pétanque court open to everyone, except when KIK holds matches or league competitions there. This makes it possible to alternate active days with casual games and breaks by the harbour.
Relaxation is also part of what the area offers. The sauna on Knippla provides evening sunshine and the chance to cool off with a swim in the sea. This is a special option for travellers who want to plan a quieter part of the day after an outdoor outing or time spent by the water.
Harbour life and cultural impressions
Källö-Knippla has well-preserved, authentic Bohuslän buildings, with houses standing close together. In the harbour of Källö-Knippla, 29 fishing boats were based in the 1960s, each crewed by 6 to 8 fishermen. According to the area's recorded history, the first inhabitants were fishermen who benefited from the great herring period of the 1790s. This past gives the harbour and its buildings a distinct regional character.
Källö-Knippla's summer programme includes a harbour festival with live music. In July, the harbour square on Knippla also hosts music evenings and boat bingo. Källö-Knippla also holds a traditional Midsummer celebration for children and adults. The Knippla chapel lists praise services on 27 August, 17 September and 22 October, each at 7 p.m. Coffee is usually served after services. The chapel's grounds were used by the temperance association Verdandi at the beginning of the 20th century.
Getting there and choosing accommodation
