Grundsund combines the character of a well-preserved fishing village with an archipelago landscape, cultural history and a variety of waterside paths. Small houses and sheds cluster along the cliffs, the quay and the harbour canal. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Grundsund will find a place where leisurely discoveries, hikes and activities on the water can be combined across different types of holiday days.

Fishing Village, Church and Stories from Skaftö

The older parts of Grundsund lie on both sides of the canal and form part of the settlement areas and surroundings protected by municipal development plans. As you walk around the village, you will also encounter two historic religious buildings: a major renovation gave Grundsund Church its current cruciform layout in 1893, while the chapel was built as early as 1799. These buildings make the history of the village visible in different ways.

Grundsund is also connected with more recent cultural history. A large part of the television series Saltön was filmed on Skaftö, particularly in Grundsund. Folkets Hus is home to the cinema on Skaftö, where films are occasionally shown. Those who want to get to know the village not only as a starting point for excursions but also in its own atmosphere can include such cultural attractions in their daily plans.

Archipelago Trails and Hikes for Different Levels

The coastal promenade between Skäddhålan and the bathing spot at Vigerna follows the rocks and the coastline. Along the way, rocky archipelago views open up; there is also a cave and information boards about the landscape. The old cholera cemetery on the Kuststigen section between Fiskebäckskil and Grundsund provides another historical feature.

Several different routes are available for active days. Skuddevigeleden is a challenging nature trail over the mountains of Ösö. It connects Skutevik with the continuation of the trail towards Hårsäckan and offers views of the sea and the outlying archipelago landscape. From Grundsund, an easy hiking trail also leads towards Islandsberg. The different types of routes help you shape your holiday around a challenging nature hike, an easy walking trail and a cultural tour of the village.

Skaftöguiden offers cultural and historical as well as themed walks in Grundsund. Guided nature walks are also offered throughout the year. From Grundsund and Stockevik, you can reach the start of Munkeviksleden at the foot of Åseberget on foot or by bicycle via the coastal path. The trailhead is near the cholera cemetery.

Swimming Spots, Harbour and Kayaking around Grundsund

Munkevik beach lies between Grundsund and Stockevik. The ground consists of larger stones, and there is an equipped barbecue area at the bathing spot. From Grundsund, Munkevik can be reached via the coastal promenades and Munkeviksleden or via the combined cycle and footpath to Stockevik. At Hårsäckan, stairs with handrails run along the shore. Good swimming skills are required for bathing there; the spot is therefore not suitable as a children’s swimming area.

The harbour also shapes the range of holiday experiences. Grundsund guest harbour offers alongside berths at Östra Kajen and stern-to berths with stern lines at Västra Kajen. Those who want to experience the archipelago from the water can find kayak hire, courses and guided tours around Skaftö at Balanspunkter – Kajak i Grundsund. The kayaking courses take place in small groups; safety exercises are a fundamental part of the training.

When looking for accommodation, you can therefore consider which holiday focus suits you: cultural history of the village, paths along the coast, guided nature walks or days on the water. In Grundsund, stairs, paths and jetties may not be closed off or privatised. This keeps the paths to the landing places located close to the houses accessible.
