Tun combines a rural landscape with a remarkably long history. The church village in the municipality of Lidköping in Västergötland lies in a vibrant cultural landscape beside arable fields and horse pastures, near Lake Vänern. For planning your trip, this means you can combine historical discoveries, an exercise trail and a regional route with a variety of landscape impressions.

Landscape and Vänerslingan around Tun

The Vänerslingan offers a distinctive way to orient yourself during your stay. It is both a country road and a water route along the southwestern shore of Lake Vänern, extending as far as Tun. On land, the route runs from the Örslösarondellen roundabout in Lidköping to Tun and onward to the Viggen rest area on Road 44.

Along this cultural route, you can discover churches, museums, nature reserves, hiking trails, bathing spots, experiences and other sights. This makes Tun an interesting destination for travellers who do not want to limit their stay to a single attraction. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether you would prefer to focus on historical places, physical activity or a drive through the surrounding region.

Church, burial mound and local history

Tun Church was built in 1846 on the same site where its medieval predecessor had already stood. Anyone interested in churches and historic village settings will find a tangible connection to the church village's past here. Another impressive monument is Stenkullen near Tun. The Bronze Age burial mound monument is one of the largest in Sweden, measuring 60 metres in diameter and seven metres high.

The more recent development of the village can also be traced through a building: Tun's elkvarn was built in 1913–1914 in connection with the electrification of Tunbygden. In addition, the Tuns Hembygdsmuseum in Silvii skola preserves a large number of objects from the local area. The museum also displays traces of the first people in the surrounding area.

The history reaches far back. People have lived and worked in the area around Tun for several thousand years, and much has been preserved from this history. For families and other travel groups, it can be interesting to include these different periods in their shared planning: medieval church history, Bronze Age monuments, local everyday culture and the development of electrification stand side by side.

Physical activity and your own priorities

If you would also like to plan a more active part of your itinerary during your stay, the exercise trail in Tun starts at Tunets IP. It can be reached from Tun's built-up area via a connecting path. This allows you to add a different theme to your stay without losing sight of the cultural attractions.

An accommodation in Tun can therefore be chosen according to your preferred travel pace: the focus can be on historical discoveries, a trip along the Vänerslingan or a combination of landscape, museum and physical activity.
