Cultural history along the Viskan

A prominent example of Rydboholm’s history is Rydboholm Church. It was built in 1852 on the banks of the Viskan for the Rydboholm factory community. As a church cultural heritage monument, it is protected under Chapter 4 of the Swedish Cultural Heritage Act.

The industrial past is also rooted in the character of the locality. Rydboholm is designated as an area of national cultural heritage interest. This character is shaped by Sweden’s first mechanical cotton mill, dating from 1834, and its associated industrial buildings. Rydboholm power station is also part of the locality’s history: the power station was built in the Modernist style between 1943 and 1945 and has largely retained its original character.

Its starting point is in Björnparken Rydboholm. Fishing is permitted in the Viskan; the Storsjön and Viskan fishing area near Rydboholm is included in the municipal fishing permit.
