Möklinta combines open farmland, hilly forests and several lakes with a remarkable cultural heritage. Those looking for a holiday apartment can combine different travel ideas here: historic architecture, insights into rural life and exercise on trails through the landscape. The accommodation can be chosen according to the desired travel theme – for example, with a focus on culture, walks or a varied combination of both.

Landscape between forests, fields and lakes

The landscape around Möklinta is diverse. Open farmland alternates with hilly forests, and there are also several lakes. Fornebyåsen stretches from north to south through the landscape near Möklinta, creating another characteristic feature of the surroundings. These differences make the area interesting for travellers who want to incorporate various impressions into their days rather than visit just a single attraction.

Church and historic farmsteads

In the centre of Möklinta, the church ensemble has retained its historic character. It includes the church, church stables, the vicarage and the former assistant minister’s residence. Möklinta kyrka also contains special details inside: The high chancel houses a Flemish mystery chest dating from around 1510 and originating in Antwerp. The three star vaults of the church interior and the groin vault of the vestibule were built without wall ribs and were therefore contemporary with the masonry. The building’s musical history also goes back a long way: The first known organ of Möklinta kyrka was installed in 1494.

Another way to explore the local history is through Gammelgården. It contains a collection of older houses that were moved to Möklinta from various places in the parish. In addition, Möklinta Hembygdsgård preserves a large collection of implements and tools from agriculture and forestry, as well as objects from household life and crafts. Some of these objects are displayed in the barn with explanatory texts. Bårstugan at the Hembygdsgård is an authentic building with its inventory intact and brings the historic collection to life through a tangible interior.

Trails for active days

Möklinta also offers various ways to stay active. The Dalkarlsvägen can still be walked from Folkärna to Möklinta along paths, forest roads and smaller country roads. Those planning a shorter run can find illuminated running tracks of 1 km and 1.5 km at Motionsspåret i Möklinta. This allows you to choose between the Dalkarlsvägen and a short exercise route when planning your trip without leaving out the cultural side of your stay.

Suitable accommodation for planning your trip

When looking for a holiday apartment in Möklinta, it is worth first deciding on your preferred rhythm. If the trip is to focus mainly on the preserved buildings, the church and the collections, the daily plans will differ from those for a stay involving the Dalkarlsvägen. Those travelling with children or several generations can also divide up different interests: Some can explore the historic houses and objects while others plan a walk on the Dalkarlsvägen or the Motionsspåret. The destinations mentioned can therefore be viewed as different building blocks of your own trip.

Möklinta nostalgimuseum displayed interiors and equipment from old village shops. This historical perspective complements the Hembygdsgård and the church ensemble with another theme from everyday life in the past. For a trip focused on culture, Möklinta therefore offers several independent points of interest, while the landscape and trails provide scope for a more active part of the day.
