Edsele: Church, Landscape and Activities on the Faxälven
Accommodation in Edsele
Edsele is located in western Ångermanland on the Faxälven and combines nature experiences with a remarkable cultural history. Viewpoints offering far-reaching views across the landscape, paths through varied terrain and destinations by the water give the area several distinct facets. Along the Faxälven, water, landscape and traces of cultural history come together to create a range of holiday experiences.
Cultural History at Edsele Church
Edsele Church was built in 1799 by the Jämtland church builder Pål Persson from Stugun. Its furnishings include a late 17th-century pulpit made by Jon Snickare in Härnösand. The church also contains a fragmentary figure of Christ from the 12th century. It probably belonged to a processional cross or a triumphal crucifix.
The Edsele local history museum also tells the story of the region's past. It consists of a Parstuga from 1836, which was relocated from Fjällbohög. Edsele Church is listed as being open during services and concerts, as well as from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday in summer, during weeks 26 to 32. You can take these times into account when planning a cultural day.
Hiking, Running and Experiencing the Landscape
Bybergsleden leads to a summit on Byberget at an elevation of 318 metres above sea level. The ascent is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and partly steep; ropes are available as support in some places. Parking is available near the start of Bybergsleden. This makes it easy to plan the tour as a separate activity without combining it with quieter cultural or swimming days.
For shorter exercise sessions, Edsele has a 2.5-kilometre illuminated running and training track as well as a 5-kilometre track. Behind the running and training track there is a wind shelter and a barbecue area. Depending on your plans for the day, you can choose between the longer ascent of Byberget and a lap on either of the two tracks.
Gideåbergsmyrarna lies on a gentle slope descending towards the valley of the Faxälven. Edsele also has viewpoints offering far-reaching views across the landscape. Northwest of Edsele is Västernorrland's largest quartz and feldspar quarry. These varied landscape experiences also make the area interesting for travellers who do not want to spend every day of their holiday on a sporty outing.
Water Experiences at Rammsjön
The Edsele Water Ski Club is based at Rammsjön beach. You can try water skiing there on several days each week. The beach has a sandy shore, a bathing jetty, a diving tower in the water and a barbecue area. This provides another opportunity to spend a day by the water and choose activities at a pace that suits you.
The Right Accommodation for Planning Your Trip
When choosing accommodation in Edsele, you can use your preferred travel rhythm as the starting point. A holiday apartment or holiday home can be selected based on whether you want to vary your days on holiday or focus on specific activities. This leaves room for active pursuits and quieter periods. What matters is how much variety you want to plan into your holiday.
