Discover Nordingra: Nature, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Nordingra
Nordingra combines impressive landscapes with unusual cultural sites and a wide variety of trails. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment can choose the location based on their preferred experiences: circular trails such as Omneleden, longer hikes on Världsarvsleden, coastal landscapes around Rotsidan or a trip to the Högbonden lighthouse site each offer a different focus. There are also historic church buildings, art and local food.
Hiking through forests, viewpoints and coastal landscapes
Omneleden is a moderately difficult circular trail covering 5.2 kilometres. The tour takes about three hours and starts at Omnebadet. This makes it possible to incorporate a clearly defined hike into your day without structuring your entire stay around a long route. Those looking for a more extensive connection through the landscape will find Världsarvsleden, a trail that runs for more than 14 Swedish miles through Nordingra.
Another distinctive trail option is the steep path to the summit of Stortorget, which begins at Mannaminne. The viewpoint is 135 metres above sea level. The different starting points and route types help you organise your activities according to length, route and the desired impression of the landscape. For a holiday with several generations, it may make sense not to plan the same type of hike every day, but to alternate between a circular trail, viewpoint and cultural destination.
Natural experiences with their own character
Nordingra is also shaped by its protected landscapes. Ten of the municipality of Kramfors's total of seventeen nature reserves are located in Nordingra. Twelve of the fourteen orchid species found in Nordingrå grow in Halsviksravinen. This exceptional abundance of plants makes the ravine a natural attraction in its own right for visitors who want to discover not only expansive views but also distinctive habitats.
Rotsidan is a four-kilometre-long stretch of coast with flat diabase surfaces. The sea has smoothed these rock surfaces and given them their distinctive shape. Those wishing to focus their holiday more on coastal landscapes can consider Rotsidan an important destination. Högbonden combines nature and maritime history: the site has been a classic lighthouse location since 1909 and lies in a nature reserve. There is also a hostel in the lighthouse area. Högbonden can be reached by excursion boat from Barsta or Bönhamn, operated by Höga Kusten-Båtarna.
Churches, art and local history
The cultural side of Nordingra includes Nordingrå kyrka, which was completed in 1825. East of the present church stands the ruin of the medieval predecessor church; its oldest parts date from the early 13th century. Today, twelve church stables stand at Kyrkstallarna on the old road to Vågsfjärden. These buildings were formerly used by churchgoers who travelled to church by horse. Kyrkstallarna are the only surviving church stables in the entire Kramfors parish.
Mannaminne is an art and cultural village in Nordingrå. The site includes around 50 buildings and vehicles from all over the world. Together with the path to Stortorget, Mannaminne can therefore be planned both as a cultural destination and as a starting point for a hike. In Själand, Gårdsbutiken offers locally produced food as well as the opportunity to have lunch or dinner. This allows an excursion to be complemented by a regional culinary experience.
The right accommodation idea for your trip
When looking for a holiday apartment in Nordingra, it is worth first deciding on your preferred travel rhythm. If hikes and viewpoints are the main focus, Omneleden, Världsarvsleden and Stortorget are the defining themes. If the trip is to be shaped more by the coast and nature, Rotsidan and Högbonden move to the forefront. Those interested in culture can combine Nordingrå kyrka, Kyrkstallarna and Mannaminne.
