Klimpfjäll combines expansive mountain landscapes with trails, historical traces and special opportunities for active days away. The highest point in the Klimpfjäll ski system is 805 metres above sea level and offers views across a vast mountain landscape. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore particularly useful to consider which experiences you want to shape your stay: cycling, hiking, cultural history, cross-country skiing or culinary discoveries.

Mountain landscape and trails around Klimpfjäll

Those who want to explore Klimpfjäll on foot will find several starting points. One starting point for the Lapplandsleden trail is located by Norgefarargården. The summit of Satsfjället can also be reached in the vicinity of Klimpfjäll via a short hike from the entrance to the nature reserve. West of Klimpfjäll at Soldalen, there is a car park for the Satsfjället nature reserve. This information helps you coordinate your hiking days and the preferred location of your accommodation sensibly, without forcing all your excursions into a single programme.

Another destination is Klimpgubben K2. The excursion destination can be reached via several trails; popular starting points are located by Norgefarargården and at the car park below Norrliften. Lunch and coffee as well as pastries are offered there, together with views of the village and mountains. Anyone who wants to combine an active day with a break can include this place in their travel plans, along with the other destinations Trollstigen, Kullafallet and the hiking opportunities in Klimpfjäll.

Mountain biking, cross-country skiing and winter travel

Klimpfjäll’s ski slopes have a completed mountain biking trail system. It includes the Dracula trail, which was specially built for cycling. Maps of the trail system are displayed at Norgefarargården and in the local shop. Mountain bikes can be rented in sizes Small, Medium and Large.

Cross-country skiing trails are available directly by Skidstugan. These include a 2.3-kilometre illuminated loop. Two day trails, including the illuminated loop, are 6 and 10 kilometres long respectively. When travelling to the area, you should also take the seasonal road notice into account: the section of Vildmarksvägen between Leipikvattnet and Klimpfjäll is closed in winter due to heavy snowfall. This is an important part of your travel planning before you decide on your accommodation and excursions.

Norgefarargården and local culture

Norgefarargården is a culturally protected wooden house in Klimpfjäll, built in 1832 and 1860. Norgefararleden was formerly used as a trading route between Klimpfjäll and Norway. Norgefarargården served mountain farmers travelling to the trading posts of Kroken and Mosjöen in Norway as a way station, providing accommodation for the farmers and their horses. Those interested in regional history will find a different way to experience Klimpfjäll here than on a purely active holiday.

The Klimpfjäll area contains more recent traces of Sámi culture, including reindeer enclosures, reindeer huts and kåtor. On a trip that brings together different interests, these cultural themes can be combined with hikes, mountain views and regional delicacies. The farm shop at Norgefarargården sells natural products, herbal tea, juice and jams. Norgefarargården also has a café that operates seasonally in summer.

Choose accommodation to suit your travel plans

When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Klimpfjäll, it is worth considering the focus of your trip. For a stay with cycling and hiking days, the mountain biking trail system, the Lapplandsleden, Satsfjället and the trails to Klimpgubben K2 are the main attractions. If you want to combine culture and landscapes, Norgefarargården, Norgefararleden and the Sámi cultural traces are a suitable selection. In winter, the closed road connection and the trails by Skidstugan should be included in your planning.

When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can also consider whether scenic flights are part of your personal travel plans: Arctic Air offers scenic flights in the areas around Klimpfjäll, Stora Blåsjön, Ankarvattnet and Kittelfjäll.
