Kittelfjall is located in the upper Vojmådalen, a mountain valley in the Västerbotten mountains. The village combines winter sports with a landscape where rivers, mountain lakes, hiking trails and regional stories become different kinds of travel experiences. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home can therefore first consider what they want their trip to focus on: skiing and cross-country skiing, active days in nature, or a journey that combines landscape and culture.

Winter sports with several options

The ski system in Kittelfjäll comprises 25 off-piste runs and 9 groomed runs. This provides different forms of skiing side by side, without requiring you to commit to just one type of winter sport. The two children’s areas are particularly appealing to families with children. They feature barbecue shelters, rope tows, platter lifts, a ski cross course and a ski carousel.

Kittelfjall also offers specific options away from the downhill runs. Paid cross-country ski trails start in the village, including a 3.5 km illuminated trail and another trail measuring 5 km. The Fjällspåret ski touring trail starts at the Jan-Express lift facility. It is marked with a short 4.5 km loop and a longer 10 km loop. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether you want to focus on downhill skiing, cross-country skiing or ski touring.

Legends, River Landscape and Cultural Heritage

The Sagostigen trail runs along the Vojmån River and tells local legends and stories from the region. Painted legendary figures and animals can be seen in the forest. The trail also crosses a suspension bridge and continues into the Marsfjällens naturreservat nature reserve. In this way, Sagostigen combines experiencing nature and regional culture in a shared discovery.

The Vojmån continues eastwards past Kittelfjäll. In the surrounding area, lakes and flowing waters can be explored by canoe or boat, including the Vojmån and Borkasjön. Those who prefer to travel on foot will find family-friendly hiking trails as well as high-alpine summit tours and longer hikes along waterways and mountain slopes in the areas around Kittelfjäll, Henriksfjäll, Grönfjäll and Gränssjö.

A Destination for Active and Culturally Interested Travellers

The village of Kittelfjäll was founded in the early 19th century. Its cultural landscape is of national interest for cultural heritage conservation. The entire Kittelfjäll area is also of national interest for outdoor recreation under Chapter 3, Section 6 of the Swedish Environmental Code. In addition to the sporting activities, these two aspects give the village a historical and scenic dimension.

Well-groomed snowmobile trails are available for longer excursions. Day trips lead to Virisen, Saxnäs/Klimpfjäll, Borgafjäll or Hemavan/Tärnaby. Another option is the Kittelfjäll–Gränssjö road cycling route, which is 45 km long; the round trip from Kittelfjäll is 90 km. In winter, trout and Arctic char can be caught in the mountain lakes around Kittelfjäll.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Kittelfjall, it is worth deciding in advance what type of trip you want. For winter sports, the ski system, cross-country ski trails and ski touring trail are important points of reference. For a summer trip, water activities, hiking, cycling and Sagostigen may be decisive. The Sagavägen runs directly through Kittelfjäll; there are also public electric vehicle charging stations at selected central locations in the surrounding area, including in Kittelfjäll.
