Ransäter combines Swedish cultural history with a variety of trails through the landscape. Geijersgården, Erlandergården, Ransäter Church and several hiking options offer different ways to plan your trip. You can shape your stay around historical impressions, plan walks or get to know the area during a larger event.

Cultural History in Ransäter

An important place to visit is Geijersgården. The building is the birthplace of the writer Erik Gustaf Geijer and also serves as a memorial to Erik Gustaf Geijer, F. A. Dahlgren and Uno Troili. Plan your visit to Geijersgården during the summer half of the year. Anyone interested in literature, notable figures and Swedish cultural history can specifically include this place in their travel plans.

Erlandergården houses a permanent exhibition about the life, career and significance of Tage Erlander for Swedish politics. Alongside its literary heritage, Ransäter therefore also places a focus on political history. The short Erlanderstigen trail starts at Erlandergården and forms an approximately 1.3-kilometre loop through the surrounding area. Along the way, you cross the Ranån on an old stone arch bridge; the ravine forest around the trail is protected as a biotope.

Ransäter Church also tells the story of the area’s eventful history. The present church was rebuilt on a smaller scale after the old church, dating from 1672, burned down in 1983. The foundation stones of the former church are visible outside the northern entrance. Inside, or as part of the church furnishings, the light bearer, the seven-branched candelabra and the candlestick for the baptismal or Easter light are also worth noting. These works were designed and created in Ransäter by the metal artist Nils Forslund.

Events and Trails for Different Types of Travel Days

At Ransäters hembygdsgård, the folk play Värmlänningarna has been performed every year around Midsummer since its premiere in 1954. Ransäterstämman is one of the larger events held at Ransäters hembygdsgård. If you would like to plan your trip around cultural traditions, these occasions provide a special focus; when making specific plans, you should take the relevant dates into account.

For a longer hike, the Geijerleden trail is approximately 11.2 kilometres one way, and the hike takes around five hours. At approximately 1.3 kilometres, Erlanderstigen is considerably shorter and combines exercise with Erlandergården, the stone arch bridge and the protected ravine forest. Another short option is Ransäters Elljusspår, which is approximately 2.7 kilometres long and can also be used for cross-country skiing in winter. This allows you to compare longer and shorter activities according to your preferred daily schedule, without making every day the same.

The Right Accommodation for Your Travel Plans

When looking for a holiday apartment in Ransäter, it is worth deciding on your personal focus first. For a culture-oriented trip, Geijersgården, Erlandergården, the church and the events can provide a common thread. If you would like to spend more time outdoors, Geijerleden, Erlanderstigen and Elljusspår take centre stage. For a winter trip, it is particularly relevant that Elljusspår can also be used for cross-country skiing.

You can also take the journey into account when planning: Regional bus route 600 stops approximately 100 metres from the entrance to Ransäters hembygdsgård. This is especially useful as a point of reference if events at the venue are part of your travel plans. For other destinations in the surrounding area, you can also take a look at Munkfors.

Ransäter is therefore well suited to a trip combining cultural history, Swedish traditions and trails through the landscape. Decide whether the longer hike, short nature experiences, historic places or an event period should shape your stay, and choose your holiday apartment to match the character of your trip.
