Nybble – Nature Trails and Cultural-Historical Traces
Accommodation in Nybble
Nybble combines nature experiences with unusually tangible cultural history. Värmlands Säby lies immediately south of the village, a place with a long past and a variety of opportunities for walks and hikes. Those planning a trip can choose between a nature reserve, a riverside trail and historical traces, and then shape their days accordingly.
Värmlands Säby Nature Reserve
Värmlands Säby Nature Reserve is home to a species-rich bird population as well as numerous insect and lichen species. This provides nature enthusiasts with a diverse area for observation, where the focus is not limited to just one landscape feature. In the northern part of the reserve, there is also a marked hiking trail approximately 5.5 km long. The route can be taken into account when planning the day as a longer hiking option, without implying any specific walking time or level of difficulty.
There is an information board at the car park and another at the entrance to the nature reserve. It provides orientation about the area on site. When approaching by car, turn west towards Nybble approximately 6 kilometres south of Bäckhammar, then turn south towards Värmlands Säby after about 200 metres.
Selanty Nature Trail and Historical Impressions
Another option is the narrow Selanty Nature Trail. It runs along the Visman River and starts at Selanty Park in the village of Nybble. The trail is 3 km long and forms a loop. When planning your day, you can choose between the 3-km circular route and the marked hiking trail approximately 5.5 km long in the northern part of the nature reserve.
The Selanty Nature Trail passes Värmlands Säby, a manor house dating from the 18th century. Säbyallén is also home to an avenue of oak trees and a stone wall. Those who would like to take in cultural-historical impressions during a hike will find several specific points of reference along the trail.
Rian and the History of Grain Drying
One of the notable historical traces is the culturally and historically significant Rian building. It was built in 1760 for drying grain and was one of the first grain-drying facilities constructed from stone. At Rian, stone buildings with fireplaces outside were built. The heat was channelled into the building to reduce the risk of fire.
Värmlands Säby is considered one of Värmland’s oldest farms and is mentioned as a monastic estate as early as 1216. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home in Nybble, the desired mix of nature and history can therefore be a useful starting point for your planning: the Selanty Nature Trail and Rian offer a culture-focused route, while the nature reserve, with its birdlife, insect and lichen species, as well as its marked hiking trail, allows for a more nature-oriented day.
