Storvreta: Art, Nature and Active Days
Accommodation in Storvreta
Storvreta combines public art, nature experiences and seasonal activities with a history closely connected to the town’s railway station. This gives you different options when planning your trip: you can combine a stay by the water, cultural discoveries, hikes or winter activities.
Discover Art and Local History
There are several notable works of art around the railway station. “Dröm eller vendeltid” was created specifically for Storvreta railway station. The helmeted figures recall archaeological finds from the Vendel Period. The station area also features the ceiling painting “Drakorm under jord” by Lisa Jonasson in the pedestrian tunnel. Art enthusiasts will therefore find different forms and themes here, without the visit being limited to a single building.
Another striking work is “Stenparken” by Gunilla Bandolin. The 400-tonne artwork can be explored on site next to Storvretabadet. It consists of two circles with a shared centre. A conveniently accessible bathing spot on the Fyrisån is nearby. Anyone wishing to combine art with time by the water can include these two Storvreta experiences in their day plan.
The town’s architectural history is also present in several places. Storvreta railway station was inaugurated in 1874. Following the establishment of the railway in 1874, industrial businesses began to develop in Storvreta. Storvreta kapell was designed by the architect Rolf Bergh and inaugurated on 9 September 1979. Storvreta kyrka was built and inaugurated in 2024; it is an extension of Storvreta församlingsgård and has space for 150 people.
Nature, Activities and Winter Days
Storvreta offers several different options for active days. At Skogsvallen, there are 2.5- to 5-km exercise and ski tracks with artificial snow. The old track is 2.5 km long and is also used as an exercise and ski track. The slopes in Solparken are suitable for sledding. This allows you to compare shorter and longer winter outings without having to choose the same route.
The Storskogen nature reserve is located near Storvreta. It can be reached by car, bus or bicycle and offers several hiking trails with marked paths and signage. The municipality of Uppsala also maintains a mountain-bike trail at Tipp-toppen. The outdoor activities include planned canoeing activities and hiking activities divided into groups according to ability and age. Friluftsfrämjandet in Storvreta runs several mountain-bike groups for children and young people; among other things, the local branch organises Mörkervandringen every semester.
Which Accommodation Suits Your Trip Planning?
When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday house, you can therefore base your decision on your preferred travel theme. Storvretabadet can be reached by bus routes 110 and 115. Storvreta also has good public transport connections by train and bus. If you want to explore the town without relying exclusively on a car, this aspect is relevant to your choice of location. For nature-focused days, Storskogen offers a different experience from the works of art in the station area, while the ski tracks, sledding slope and mountain-bike activities provide seasonal variety.
Storvreta sporthall is also part of the local infrastructure. It is leased to the Sports and Recreation Committee of the Municipality of Uppsala, which then sublets it to schools and clubs.
