Vacation apartment in Enköping – discover culture and Lake Mälaren

Enköping combines historic city exploration with the landscape of Lake Mälaren, a variety of paths and unique water experiences. Between museums, churches, works of art, bathing spots and events, you will encounter both traces of past centuries and vivid examples of local industrial history.

Culture and history

A historic city walk leads to selected historic sites in the city for independent exploration. An archaeological excavation uncovered a paved road that has already been dated to the beginning of the 11th century. Vårfrukyrkan on Kyrkåsen was built from the 12th century onwards and served at that time as a church for a larger area. The ruins of St Ilians kyrka, built at the end of the 13th century, are located below Kyrkåsen.

Enköpings museum is located in the former town hall, which was built as early as 1783. The museum presents the cultural history of the municipality from the Stone Age to almost the present day and, in addition to permanent exhibitions, also features changing exhibitions on various topics. Westerlundska gården is a museum in the former home and former practice of Doctor Westerlund.

At the harbor of Enköping stand red-painted grain warehouses dating from the late 18th century. Next to the warehouses, there is a guest harbor with ten berths as well as parking spaces for motorhomes. The Bahco Museum traces the path from local innovation, with J.P. Johansson’s adjustable wrench, to global success. Machines, films and objects from the company’s industrial history are on display, including a power hammer, lathes, special-purpose machines and objects from the company’s industrial fire brigade.

Nature and activities

Cykelleden Uppland is an 80-kilometer cycling route through the Lake Mälaren landscape between Enköping and Bålsta via Örsundsbro. Vattenparken near Korsängen is a natural area. It combines recreation with the purification of large parts of Enköping’s rainwater and serves as a habitat for birds. Haga ekbackar can be reached by bicycle from the immediate vicinity of Enköping; there you will find views of the lake, oak groves and hazel groves.

Åpromenaden is an approximately 2-kilometer route to public works of art that can be visited year-round, around the clock and in all weather conditions. At a leisurely pace and with short stops at the works of art, the art walk takes approximately 50 to 60 minutes and begins and ends in Drömparken. Mountainbikeleden in Gånsta is a blue-marked, 4-kilometer route that begins at the obstacle course in Gånsta.

Water and leisure

Pepparrotsbadet offers family experiences with lagoons, water currents, an infinity pool and a diving tower. The facility also has a water slide over 100 meters long and a climbing wall. The children’s area features a Viking ship, a runestone and a treasure hunt.

In the immediate vicinity, five kilometers south of the center of Enköping, Bredsandsbadet offers a long sandy beach, a diving tower, jetties, a beach volleyball court and a kiosk. From Bredsand, kayak or canoe launch points provide access to Lake Mälaren and the islands of Skarpan and Gröneborg. Enköping can be reached by boat via Lake Mälaren; several harbors have guest berths.

Events

Trädgårdsdagen takes place in the parks and center of Enköping on the first Saturday of September every year. The event is free of charge and combines activities for all age groups with the themes of gardening, health, food and handicrafts. Trädgårdsdagen includes activities, markets, lectures, exhibitors and workshops.

Getting there

Enköping railway station is located at Enköpings resecentrum. The station has bus connections to Västerås on route 874 and to Uppsala on routes 774 and 804. The train journey from Stockholm Central Station to Enköping takes approximately 40 minutes.
