Landscape architect Sven Hermelin worked in Marabouparken from 1937 to 1955. The park contains a sculpture collection with works by Swedish and international artists. In Duvbo’s cultural surroundings, large gardens, the street network, parks, a church, a school, a fire station, lush vegetation and historic villas form a cohesive whole. Duvbo kyrka was inaugurated in 1904; its façades were designed in a simple, freely conceived Gothic Revival style.

Nature

Igelbäckens naturreservat was established in 2004 to protect Igelbäcken and preserve the surrounding landscape for outdoor recreation and nature experiences. The reserve has many paths, exercise trails and varied nature. Rissne ängars naturreservat combines open meadows with wooded heights where pine trees more than 300 years old grow. There are also playgrounds, a children’s pool, barbecue areas, a toboggan run and large open spaces.

Rissne ängars naturreservat is part of a larger green area extending from Rissne to Lake Råstasjön in Solna, enabling walks through green spaces across Sundbyberg. A different landscape can be found in Lötsjön-Golfängarnas naturreservat: It includes wooded areas, open lawns, a bird lake, a playground, a paddling pool and a ball court. Several walking and cycling paths cross the reserve. Throughout the year, it offers opportunities for play, exercise, recreation and nature experiences.

Watercourses and open bodies of water are also part of the local landscape. Bällstaån flows through Sundbyberg and, after running through Bällstaviken and Lake Ulvsundasjön, flows into Lake Mälaren. Bällstaviken with Lake Ulvsundasjön is, apart from Lake Lötsjön, the only larger open body of water in Sundbyberg.

Getting around

Sundbyberg can be reached by metro, bus, tram, commuter rail, car, bicycle and airport buses. The metro journey from T-Centralen to Sundbybergs centrum takes approximately 12 minutes. At Sundbybergs centrum, the commuter rail connects with the blue metro line. This makes various modes of transport and a clearly described connection in the town centre part of the local infrastructure.

Activities

Ursviks motionsområde offers five different route lengths as well as an activity trail for children. Nickspåret is an approximately 12.5-kilometre mountain biking trail that can be divided into shorter stages. In winter, Ursvik has a two-kilometre artificial-snow cross-country ski trail.

Sundbybergs simhall och gym has five swimming pools. The facilities also include a gym, group exercise classes, and a dry sauna and a steam sauna.

Everyday life and events

Since 2005, Sundbyberg has celebrated the National Day at Golfängarna as a large public festival for all residents. The library in Hallonbergens centrum focuses on children, young people and learning.
