Trosa between nature, archipelago and culture
The municipality of Trosa has a varied landscape of open plains, moraine uplands, glacial ridges and rocky outcrops that continue into an archipelago landscape. There are 16 nature reserves in the municipality of Trosa. As a result, very different natural environments lie side by side: forests and coasts, wetlands and lakes, rock formations and historic cultural landscapes.
Nature
The Kråmö Nature Reserve offers forests suitable for hiking and maintained paths. There are also opportunities for swimming from smooth rocks and at small beaches. In the Bokö-Askö Nature Reserve, a two-kilometre-long path leads through an old cultural landscape; there are further opportunities for swimming along the rocky coast. The Tomtaklintskogen Nature Reserve has marked hiking trails and a diverse range of flora and fauna.
The Lånestaheden Nature Reserve is home to several rare plant species due to its limestone bedrock. At the same time, Lånestaheden is considered one of the richest archaeological discovery areas in Södermanland. The Luckebol Nature Reserve includes old natural pine forest, mixed coniferous and deciduous forests, small swamp forests, forest edges rich in deciduous trees, stands of oak and hazel, and a small meadow. There are no marked paths there; visitors make their own way along existing paths and through the area.
The Tullgarn och Furholmen area includes deciduous forest, pastures, coastal meadows, wetlands, lakes and a long coastline with small islands and skerries. Furholmen has limestone-rich rock formations and a species-rich flora with several rare species. The Nynäs Nature Reserve offers opportunities for swimming along the coast, berthing facilities, walking paths and fishing opportunities subject to special rules. Cross-country skiing is possible there in winter; along the Sörmlandsleden, there are shorter and longer routes as well as shelters and barbecue areas.
A path from Tullgarn Palace passes Västerviken, a good place for birdwatching, and leads through oak pastures to viewpoints overlooking Tullgarnsviken. Stages 53 to 56 of the Sörmlandsleden also run through the municipality of Trosa. The Nature Map for Trosa includes nature reserves, Natura 2000 areas, and cycling, mountain biking and hiking trails. Routes and activities
The Vitalis recreational area offers activities all year round. These include an approximately 1.7-kilometre-long MTB trail with a Blue difficulty rating and green sections. The Bergs Gård MTB arena has approximately 35 kilometres of MTB trails. Another option on two wheels is the approximately 20-kilometre-long Hembygdsrundan, a cycling orienteering route of the HittaUt exercise initiative, which runs through Trosa, Vagnhärad and Västerljung. Trosa also has two 18-hole golf courses.
On Sävö, you can hike along the Sörmlandsleden. There is also a small museum about the history of pilotage. In summer, the Trosa archipelago service travels to the islands of Kråmö and Askö. Trosa havsbad has a beach, rocks, a bathing jetty and a diving tower. Trosa Aktivitetspark has a high-ropes course with seven courses of varying difficulty levels, as well as zip lines at heights of 1 to 15 metres.
Culture and history
A self-guided audio tour through the centre of Trosa takes about an hour and uses historical images. Garvaregården in the centre of Trosa houses the Trosa City Museum. Garvaregården includes a tanner's house and workshop, offering an insight into a former artisan's yard. KonstTriangeln is an art trail in the municipality of Trosa, created by and intended for local artists.
The tower and the vaults inside the church of Vagnhärad probably date from the middle of the 15th century. The church contains a 15th-century sculpture of Mary and a 15th-century altarpiece. Trosa stadskyrka was completed in 1710 and inaugurated in 1711.
The oldest part of Västerljung Church dates from the 12th century. The church has an altarpiece made in Lübeck towards the end of the 15th century. Trosa lands kyrka was built north of the town of Trosa in the 13th century. It includes a chapel probably built in the 1420s, with a preserved image of Saint Anne.
Trosabacken offers both alpine skiing and cross-country skiing.
