Sjöbo combines the historic character of a town with a variety of opportunities for active and cultural holiday days. In parts, the town has preserved the character of a central town from the turn of the century. There are also markets, exhibitions, walking trails and places to visit in the surrounding area. Those looking for holiday accommodation or a holiday home in Sjöbo can therefore plan their stay according to their own interests, combining exploring the town, activity and experiences in nature.

Culture and distinctive local history

Sjöbo Konsthall presents exhibitions and has an adjoining creative space that is open to everyone. Flora provides a historic touch: since opening on 8 November 1939, it has operated continuously as a cinema and theatre. Today, current films are shown there. Tickets are available online via Tickster or at the cinema box office, which opens 30 minutes before each screening. This makes it easy to plan a cinema visit as a separate activity for a more relaxing holiday day.

Ceramics are also part of the cultural character of the area. Elfstrands krukmakeri is a pottery environment designated as a listed historic building and was the first pottery environment in Skåne to receive this heritage designation. In the former pottery studio, exhibitions by contemporary ceramicists are held in summer. Those who prefer to get to know the town through many short stops can follow the cultural and historical walking tour through Sjöbo. Audio files in Swedish and English are available at the stops.

Walks, cycling routes and active days

For short walks, Hälsogången offers a blue-marked 1,700-metre loop. Oran’s outdoor recreation area has six exercise loops, including a lit loop, for walking or running through varied terrain. The area is east of Sjöbo and 1 kilometre from the bus station. Cyclists will also find a total of 25 kilometres of marked mountain bike trails there: one green, three blue and one red route, with different lengths and levels of difficulty.

Orebadet near Oran complements this selection with a 50-metre outdoor pool, a lane for swimming training, a teaching pool and a paddling pool for small children. For families, such a range of options can make planning each day easier: one day can combine exercise and swimming, while another leaves time for a market, cinema or cultural walking tour. X-rundan is a quiz walk with questions along the route, adding a playful element to exploring the town.

Nature in the surrounding area

Fyledalen Nature Reserve offers several hiking trails of varying lengths and character. Walking, cycling and horse riding are permitted on the paths and trails there. In Lövestads åsar Nature Reserve, an approximately 1.5-kilometre hike on the Skåneleden initially follows a wooded ridge and then continues along a road at a lower elevation. These differences make Sjöbo a suitable base for holiday days with a changing rhythm: a short town walk, a longer route through nature or a cycling excursion.

Markets and trip planning

The Sjöbo Market has been held since 1864. The Mikaeli Market remains a harvest market featuring food, crafts and handicrafts. The Sjöbo Summer Market also takes place in July on the Thursday and Friday of calendar week 29 at the market square in the centre of Sjöbo. When choosing accommodation, it can be useful to take such dates into account in your own trip planning and alternate between a culturally focused stay in the town and quieter days with experiences in nature.

For further orientation, you can also look at Fränninge, Blentarp, Sövde, Vollsjö, Lövestad and Äsperöd. This makes it possible to compare which place best suits your desired mix of culture, activity, market visits and nature.
