Glimåkra combines active experiences, water and a remarkable cultural history. Various fitness and hiking trails make the town interesting for anyone who enjoys spending their days outdoors. Families will find an adventure trail for children in Trollstigen, while the Skåneleden passes through Trollabackarna. This makes accommodation in Glimåkra a potential base for a variety of holiday days: sometimes involving exercise, sometimes exploring the town, or enjoying a seasonal day of swimming.

Hiking Trails and Activities for the Whole Family

The hiking and fitness trails begin at the car parks near Trollacenter or Trollabadet. This information is useful when planning your day if you want to start an outing specifically at one of these points. Trollacenter offers activities for the whole family, including short walking trails, a skate park, a playground and an outdoor gym. Trollstigen complements this offering as an adventure trail for children.

The Skåneleden also brings its own hiking perspective to your stay: it passes through Trollabackarna. Trollasjön is located at Trollabadet, with the Trollabackarna forest in the background. The outdoor pool is one of two seasonal outdoor pools in the municipality of Östra Göinge and is open in summer from June to August. If you value a combination of trails, play and sports facilities, and water when choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can take these aspects into account when planning your trip.

Culture, Crafts and Local History

Glimåkra also offers quieter discoveries. The present-day Glimåkra kyrka was built in 1837–1838 on the site of an older church dating from the 13th century. It is centrally located in Glimåkra and surrounded by a lush, green park. The church is open during services and on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The local history also includes the Glimåkra–Kristianstad railway line, which was built in the immediate vicinity of the church in 1886.

At the Svenska VävstolsMuseet, a permanent exhibition displays looms and weaving equipment. The museum also has a library with books on textiles. Each year, it holds 8–10 courses on crafts and traditional handicrafts, with a focus on hand weaving. The Glimma Glass Museum displays photographs and glass from the former factory; operations at the glass factory ceased in 1969. In Glimåkra, you can also experience the collected works of Hiroshi Koyama.

Historical Stories and Excursions in the Surrounding Area

Kulturspåret also includes stories from Glimåkra, retold by Per Gustavsson. Much of the wooden architecture of the station settlement from around 1900 has been preserved in the town. Those interested in regional history can also include Drakeberga Hembygdsgård in their plans when exploring the area around Glimåkra. The local heritage farm is located immediately next to Trollabadet, north of Glimåkra. It contains donated objects from various places associated with the parish. From May to September, the farm is open on the first Tuesday of each month from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

When searching for accommodation, you can therefore compare different priorities: trails and fitness facilities, a seasonal outdoor pool, family activities, or museums and local history. A holiday apartment in Glimåkra is a suitable search direction for a stay where the destination itself sets the rhythm of the day. If you would like to broaden your regional search, you can also consider Knislinge, Sibbhult, Broby, Hanaskog and Immeln as additional destinations.
