Skånes Fagerhult is a destination for trips where the waterscape and local history stand side by side. The small Fagerhultasjön lake covers 4.0 hectares within the settlement; its water flows into the adjacent Fedingesjön. At the same time, the church, railway, Kungsgatan and former ironworking industry tell the story of a development that extends far beyond a short stay by the water. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Skånes Fagerhult, you can choose between a nature-focused day programme and historical discoveries.

Lakes, Forest and Experiences by the Water

Skånes Fagerhult lies in a hilly, heavily wooded landscape with small plots of arable and grazing land. The two lakes are surrounded by forest and have reed beds. Along their shores, anglers can fish for perch, bream, pike, carp, roach and eel. Pike can be sought from the shore where they hide among the reeds. There is a clear rule concerning carp: they must always be returned to the water.

Fedingesjön has a bathing area with a bathing jetty, toilet and changing room. A bathing-water test carried out on 5 August 2026 classified Fedingesjön as “Tjänligt”. When planning your trip, you should associate this classification with the stated test date. This keeps the bathing area a concrete reference point without turning a single test result into a general statement for every season.

There are also various ways to spend your time away from the lakes. In the surrounding area between Fedingshult, Höjalt and Sandhult, public forest paths run through the landscape and can be used for walking, cycling and riding. The Möllerundan follows old, overgrown paths that have been used for generations. An outdoor ice rink at Junexvallen is occasionally prepared for skating by volunteers. On 30 June 2018, a parkour park open to everyone was also inaugurated as an activity area with obstacles.

A Place with a Long History of Development

Skånes Fagerhult has been documented in written sources since around 1500. At that time, the village consisted of a few farms and a church. Fagerhult was the first church village on the Skåne side. The old medieval church was demolished because of its poor condition; a new church was inaugurated in 1900. Anyone interested in church and local history can connect different historical layers here without limiting the trip solely to historic buildings.

The railway brought an important change. In 1894, the village received a station named Fagerhult. It was later renamed Skånes-Fagerhult to avoid confusion with other places called Fagerhult. The development of the railway essentially created a new settlement within 50 years. The commercial and residential buildings along Kungsgatan reflect the development of an expanding railway and industrial community from the early to the mid-20th century. The old route between Helsingborg and Stockholm, known as Kungsvägen, also passed through Fagerhult.

The industrial history includes the textile factory founded in the village by Konfektions Kompaniet AB in 1917. Iron production is even older: in the area around Fagerhult, it was an important livelihood from the 12th to the 16th century. Around Fagerhult and Värsjö, there are approximately sixty sites with slag remains from iron processing. Another historical trace leads to Bendt Mogensen, a Danish Snapphane leader from Skånes Fagerhult who fought against Sweden in the wars of the mid-17th century.

Cycling Routes and Choosing Your Accommodation

For an active day out, the route between Eket and Skånes Fagerhult is a good option: a cycle path runs along the former railway embankment. Several station houses have been preserved along this route. The combination of railway and industrial history with a modern cycle route makes the former transformation of the village particularly vivid, without equating historical use with present-day leisure activities.

When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider which focus suits your trip. Those who mainly want to fish by the water or plan to visit the bathing area can base their search on the desired location in the village and their own daily itinerary. For visitors interested in cultural history, the church, Kungsgatan, the railway history and the traces of iron processing take centre stage. Those who prefer physical activity can include the forest paths, cycle path and Möllerundan in their plans. This gives families different starting points for days spent together: water, nature, activity and stories about the development of the village.
