Lund: Culture, Museums and Greenways
Accommodation in Lund
Lund combines an atmospheric city centre with a cathedral, museums and shops. At the same time, the city’s history reaches far back: in the Middle Ages, Lund was a Nordic cultural centre. Those who want to combine a trip with cultural discoveries, walks and an active break will find a range of options here for planning their own days.
Cultural history in several facets
Historiska museet is Skåne’s largest museum of archaeological finds, coins and ecclesiastical art. Its origins date back to the 18th century. For your visit, you can plan a guided tour of the exhibitions at 1:00 or 3:00 p.m. This gives your museum day a clear time frame without committing you to a particular order for further experiences.
Lund Cathedral dates from the 12th century and houses an astronomical clock. Free guided tours are offered for private visitors. In the surrounding Lundagård park area, the cathedral and Kulturen are located immediately beside or behind the park. This distinctive spatial relationship makes it possible to include several cultural and historical attractions around the same park area when planning your visit.
Kulturen in Lund is a cultural history museum with historic houses from different periods. The open-air museum includes six historic homes with reconstructed interiors from different eras and social classes, from the 18th century to the 1930s. At Kulturen, guided tours of the exhibitions or the historic houses in the open-air museum are included in the admission price. This allows you to choose between exploring independently and taking a guided approach to the exhibits.
The Skissernas Museum offers another perspective on art. It has the world’s largest collection of sketches, models and designs for Swedish and international public art. In this way, it complements the archaeological, ecclesiastical and everyday-history themes of the other museums with a focus on the process of creating public art.
Greenways and active travel ideas
Kunskapsparken provides a distinctive setting of its own. More than 3,000 trees and almost 400 different plant species grow there. Paved walking and cycling paths form a loop of approximately 2.5 kilometres. The MAX IV tram stop is located near the entrance to Kunskapsparken from Utmarksvägen.
Travelling by bicycle can also be considered part of the Lund experience. Section 103 of Cykelleden Skåne begins at the white beaches of Lomma. After approximately 10 kilometres of easy cycling eastwards, you reach Lund with its atmospheric city centre, cathedral, museums and shops.
The right base for your stay
When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Lund, it is worth deciding on your preferred pace of travel first. If history and art are your main interests, the museums, cathedral and Kulturen offer plenty of different subjects for several visits. Those who want to alternate between cultural activities and exercise can include Kunskapsparken or Cykelleden Skåne in their travel plans. This combination is useful for groups with different interests, as intensive museum visits, historical impressions and time spent in green surroundings can be planned separately.
For orientation on site, the Visit Lund app offers guided tours and quizzes for exploring Lund and its attractions. An interactive GPS map supports navigation, and the app also provides information about current events in Lund. This allows you to adapt your choice of activities flexibly to your preferred daily schedule and set your own priorities from your accommodation.
