Nyhamnsläge combines a coastline with distinctive landforms and traces from different eras. The Nyhamnsläge–Strandbaden nature reserve includes coastal heathland and a moraine ridge; in the Nyhamnsläge–Lerhamn nature reserve, you’ll find an Iron Age stone circle and Bronze Age burial mounds. Depending on your interests, the area can serve as a starting point for exploring nature or history.

Coastal landscapes and trails

The Nyhamnsläge–Strandbaden nature reserve encompasses coastal heathland around a moraine ridge that extends into the sea at Kullens havsbad. The Skåneleden trail passes through the entire nature reserve. If you enjoy walking, you can use this trail as a guide when planning your trip and experience a landscape where heathland and coastal landforms go hand in hand.

The Nyhamnsläge–Lerhamn nature reserve stretches for about 2 km along the coast of the Kulla Peninsula. This approximate figure describes the extent of the reserve, not a walking distance. The reserve contains an Iron Age stone circle and a few Bronze Age burial mounds. This offers a different perspective on the area: alongside the coastal landscape, visible traces of earlier times also take centre stage.

From fishing village to harbour town

Nyhamnsläge was originally a fishing village called Nyhamn. When a station was built on the railway line to Mölle, the village was given the name Nyhamnsläge because Nyhamn had already been registered elsewhere in Sweden. The first house on the site where today’s Nyhamnsläge would later develop was built in 1778. The oldest buildings are in the blocks around the harbour; Nyhamn’s first proper landing pier was built in the early 19th century.

These details give the harbour more significance than simply being a place name: they tell the story of the former fishing village’s development and its connection to the railway line to Mölle. If the character of a place matters to you when choosing a holiday apartment, the harbour history and coastal nature can offer two different points of interest. The historical traces sit alongside the experiences associated with the harbour today.

Sailing, sauna and a practical tip

In summer, Röde Orm offers sailing courses at Nyhamnsläge harbour for all age groups. Members can also take part in group evening sailing. These are different ways to get involved in sailing: the courses are open to all age groups, while group evening sailing is reserved for members. When planning your holiday, you can consider whether a course or an introduction to the club’s activities better suits your interests.

Sauna bathing is another activity available in Nyhamnsläge: the Nyhamns Bastuförening offers it there. Non-members can use the sauna by contacting a club member. If you would like to include this in your plans, contacting a club member is the recommended way to do so. For families looking for a specific place to take children, the local playground is also a useful point of reference: it can be reached on bus route 222, getting off at the Nyhamnsläge centrum stop.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can weigh up your own priorities: are you mainly interested in trails through the coastal landscape, historical traces, or sailing and sauna? The experiences mentioned offer different reasons to include Nyhamnsläge in your holiday plans, without having to focus on just one theme.
