Brokind combines nature experiences, waterways and cultural-historical impressions within a compact area. Brokind Nature Reserve can be explored on foot, by bicycle, or from the Kinda Canal by boat or kayak. There are also the trails of Östgötaleden, including the Brokind–Viggeby section that passes Brokind Lock, as well as swimming spots in the surrounding area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore worth taking your preferred daily activities into account when choosing your base.

Nature reserve and trails around Brokind

The Brokinds gård bus stop is located 200 to 400 metres from the entrances to Brokind Nature Reserve. From Brokind, cyclists can reach the northern areas of the nature reserve via a combined pedestrian and cycle path that passes through a tunnel under National Road 34. This gives the area different ways to access the landscape when planning a trip around various interests.

Östgötaleden also passes through the nature reserve: on the section between Viggeby and Sätravallen, the long-distance hiking trail runs through Brokind Nature Reserve. There is also a starting point for Östgötaleden south of Brokind, with a large car park and a bus stop. The Brokind–Viggeby section passes Brokind Lock and reaches Viggeby Nature Reserve. There you will find swimming spots, barbecue areas, wind shelters, dry toilets and parking facilities.

Water experiences on the Kinda Canal

Brokind Nature Reserve can be experienced from a boat or kayak on the Kinda Canal. Those travelling in their own boat can explore the Kinda Canal; the route passes along a waterway with historic locks. At Brokind Lock, there is a small kayak bridge where canoes and kayaks can be carried around the lock. This makes it possible to combine hiking and water activities in your trip planning, either separately or together, without every activity having to follow the same daily rhythm.

For a day of swimming, Lilla Rängen in Brokind is also one of the destinations mentioned. Viggeby Nature Reserve, in turn, has several facilities for spending time outdoors. These differences may play a role when looking for accommodation: first decide whether you mainly want to plan trails in the nature reserve, a trip along the canal, or a combination of landscape and water.

Manor house, castle and museum at the lock

Brokinds herrgård is designated as a listed building and protected by special preservation regulations. The area around Brokinds herrgård is characterised by open farmland and oak pastures. Brokinds slott has origins dating back to the 12th century. In addition to nature and outdoor activities, Brokind therefore offers historical points of interest that can be incorporated into a stay as a separate focus.

The Kinda Canal Museum at Brokind Lock displays tools and equipment from the construction of the canal, as well as photographs, drawings, sketches and historical descriptions. The museum is open when the Kinda Canal is open. Those interested in the origins of the waterway can combine a visit to the museum with a look at Brokind Lock and the Östgötaleden section.
