Rimforsa is a versatile base for days spent between hiking trails, nature reserves, lakes and regional history. The Östgötaleden begins here with a section to Sätravallen and continues from Rimforsa in all directions. At the same time, the Kinda Canal passes by Rimforsa. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home for a varied stay can therefore choose the location according to their preferred activities for each day: active hikes, nature around Lake Järnlunden, a boat trip or cultural discoveries are all nearby options.

Hiking on the Östgötaleden

From Rimforsa, you can continue hiking along the Östgötaleden in all directions. The Rimforsa–Sätravallen section begins right in Rimforsa, providing a specific starting point for planning a hike. Another option is to combine a hike from Rimforsa northwards with a boat trip on the Kinda Canal. This combination appeals to travellers who want to spend a day not only on the trail but also on the water. For families with different levels of enthusiasm for hiking, this also makes it possible to keep the travel plans varied, without every outing having to follow the same pattern.

Nature Reserves and Lake Järnlunden

A particularly accessible nature experience can be found in Hallstad ängar Nature Reserve, about 3.5 kilometres northwest of Rimforsa. Marked hiking trails connect Hallstad ängar with Borgarmon and Klevberget nature reserves. Together, they form an approximately three-kilometre circular route through all three nature reserves. This makes the area a distinct excursion option for visitors who want to combine different landscape impressions in a single loop.

Hallstad ängar Nature Reserve is home to a natural sandy beach on Lake Järnlunden. There is plenty of space for sunbathing, swimming and playing, as well as several picnic tables. For a day by the water, you can therefore choose a different focus than the Östgötaleden. When looking for accommodation in Rimforsa, it is worth taking your planned balance of hikes and time by the lake into account when choosing a location.

Kinda Canal and Harbour

Rimforsa is a good base for visits along the Kinda Canal. You can park for the M/S Kind landing stage in the centre of Rimforsa, at the square; the landing stage is about a ten-minute walk away. The guest harbour in Smedjeviken in Rimforsa has three to four berths for visiting boats. The guest harbour includes a clubhouse, kitchen, toilet, shower and an environmental station. This information is especially useful for travellers who want to plan their stay around the water and the landing stages.

History and Local Tradition

Even away from the trails and water, Rimforsa offers opportunities for cultural discoveries. Rimforsa Gästgivargård, also known as Gästis, has origins dating back to the late 17th century. Tjärstad kyrka was built in 1778 to replace a 12th-century round church. Those interested in regional architectural history and older local identities can include these stops in their travel plans without giving up the focus on nature during their stay.

A special local tradition is the Rimforsa Market. It takes place every year on the first Saturday after Midsummer. If you would like to take this date into account, you can choose your holiday apartment or holiday home according to your preferred travel dates. For other places in the surrounding area, you can also discover Västra Eneby, Kisa and Horn.
