Åsnen National Park extends into Tingsryd Municipality. It serves to preserve a representative and diverse landscape of forests and lakes in southern Sweden. The national park features marsh lakes, open marshes, taiga, pine forests on eskers and species-rich meadows – a landscape with clearly distinct habitats.

Nature and Landscape

Old oak and beech forests grow in Stenfors Nature Reserve. Hensjönäset Nature Reserve lies between the lakes Stora Hensjön and Lilla Hensjön in a landscape characterised by beech forest. The Toftåsa myr circular trail leads through marshland and the surrounding pine forest. About one kilometre of this circular trail follows the old railway embankment.

Trails

The Värendsleden canoe route passes through the western part of Åsnen National Park. Hensjönäset Nature Reserve has marked hiking trails measuring 2.2 kilometres and 1 kilometre in length. The Korröleden also runs through the meadow reserve; it can be hiked over distances of approximately 2 to 9 kilometres. The Utvandrarleden stretches for 120 kilometres and passes through three municipalities.

Tingsryd Municipality has ten dedicated cycling routes, four of which are currently signposted on the ground. The cycling route around Lake Åsnen passes the Trollberget entrance. Sunnabron is the main entrance to Åsnen National Park. The Sunnabron entrance has parking spaces, shelters, toilets, fire pits and an exhibition.

Culture

The craft village of Korrö lies on the Ronnebyån River in Tingsryd Municipality. Its old buildings provide an impression of the craft businesses that operated in the village in the past. The Korrö restaurant and café serves Småland and Swedish classics prepared in its own kitchen using locally sourced ingredients.

The Stenfors cultural trail explains the former use of the land through information boards. Stenfors Nature Reserve also contains ruins, house foundations and other traces of the Stenfors bruk ironworks. The ironworks was founded in the 17th century and operated until the late 19th century.

Kyrkö mosse is a forest museum with scrap vehicles from the 1930s. Rävemåla Hembygdspark comprises several well-preserved buildings, including a doctor’s surgery, a water mill and a photographic collection. Blidingsholmsbron is an eight-span stone arch bridge built at the beginning of the 19th century.

The Tingsås Heritage Museum has an extensive photographic archive with images of people, landscapes and events from the parish’s past. It also has a textile collection with clothing from the 19th and 20th centuries. The manor house of Södra Sandsjö Heritage Museum was built in 1818; in Dångebo, the museum also preserves a farmstead dating from the early 19th century.

Väckelsång Heritage Museum is located in a former rural inn. It features an old school museum, former church stables and an Iron Age burial ground with 46 burial mounds. The church ruins of Älmeboda preserve a Romanesque stone church originally built in the 12th century.
