The Svartbäcksmåla nature reserve covers 345 hectares and surrounds the southern areas of the town of Nybro. The area features deep coniferous mixed forests, grove-like deciduous forests, dry sandy areas and damp alder marshes. From the centre of Nybro, the nature reserve can be reached via walking and cycling paths through the Pukeberg glassworks area or from Hanemåla.
Nature
The Svartbäcksmåla activity area has six MTB trails totalling 27 kilometres, as well as a skills trail, a pump track and a flow trail. The approximately 16.5-kilometre Upplevelseleden hiking trail also runs through the area. Svartbäcksmålabacken has three downhill runs as well as a fun park with boxes and rails.
Rismåla göl is a 4.4-hectare lake in the Ljungbyån catchment area. From the bathing area in Rismåla nature reserve, an accessible path suitable for most visitors leads through the area. The bathing area has a picnic area with a wind shelter and a fire pit.
The Allgunnen nature reserve covers 2,300 hectares. Most of Lake Allgunnen and its larger and smaller islands are located within the nature reserve. Several marked hiking trails lead through forests and wetlands.
The traditionally managed meadow in Fjelebo is of great cultural and historical value. 600 species of macrolepidoptera have been observed in the Grytsjön area.
Activities
The signposted Bjällingsmålaleden hiking trail is 2.7 kilometres long and begins on Patron Trädgårdhs väg by the car park for the nature reserve. Bjällingsmåla nature reserve also has a shallow sandy beach and a barbecue area.
At 84 kilometres, the Dackeleden hiking trail is the longest hiking trail in Nybro Municipality. On its route from Mosjön in the south to Aboda Klint in the north, it passes through Svartbäcksmåla.
Nybro Simhall offers bathing, swimming for fitness and swimming lessons. The swimming centre includes a 38-degree hot tub, a one-metre diving board, a three-metre diving platform and a climbing wall in the deep end of the pool.
Culture and history
The Orrefors vandringsled hiking trail combines hiking and glass culture with the historic industrial landscape, nature and traces of the Ice Age.
Flygsfors is one of the seven best-preserved glassworks environments in Nybro Municipality. The Glasbruksleden trail passes through Flygsfors.
Nybro is home to the only James Bond museum in the world.
Designarkivet is located on the former Pukeberg glassworks site. It is a national archive that collects knowledge about design processes in Sweden. The collection comprises approximately 120,000 archival objects from around 800 designers and companies. Designarkivet organises seasonal exhibitions and receives archive and research visitors by appointment.
The Kyrkstallarna in Madesjö are now Sweden’s second-longest wooden building.
Getting there
Nybro railway station offers numerous departures every day with direct train connections to, among other places, Kalmar, Växjö, Gothenburg and Malmö. Kalmar länstrafik connects the localities of Nybro Municipality with one another, as well as Nybro with the rest of Kalmar County, through public transport.
