Mörbylånga combines coastal scenery, local history dating back to the Middle Ages and notable art offerings. For your travel planning, you can choose between the coastal stage of the Mörbylångaleden, historical discoveries in the town and a more peaceful day at the bathing beach.

Mörbylångaleden: Coastal Stage and Further Route

A special way to explore the town’s history is the Mörbylångaguiden. This is a historical audio walk about the market town of Mörbylånga. It allows you to discover the town from a narrative perspective and complement your sightseeing with a walk through its historic surroundings.

For longer hiking plans, the Mörbylångaleden offers two stages of different lengths. Stage 2 of the Mörbylångaleden runs for 18 kilometres along the coast between Skogsby and Mörbylånga. Stage 3 of the Mörbylångaleden is 13.5 kilometres long. Take these specific distances into account when planning your day and choose the scope of your activity according to whether you prefer an extended day of hiking or a shorter route.

Historic Townscape and Church Ensemble

Mörbylånga Church stands on the coastal plain below the western land escarpment. The location of the church village dates back to the Middle Ages, and the church ensemble is part of the World Heritage Site “Agricultural Landscape of Southern Öland”. Those interested in history, sacred architecture and the distinctive landscape of southern Öland will find several perspectives on the same place here, without this having to become a fixed sightseeing programme.

The streets of Mörbylånga also contribute to the townscape: they reflect the character of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Together with the medieval history, this creates an interesting contrast between different periods. During your stay, you can therefore focus not only on individual sights but also take note of the various historical traces in the townscape.

Art Between Studio and Gallery

Mörbylånga offers several opportunities to include art in your holiday. Atelje 3 Hedin is a house with studios and a gallery on the Kalmarsund. Textile objects made of wool, linen and silk are displayed there. Atelje 3 Hedin also presents paintings inspired by the nature of Öland, the sea and the Alvar. This works as an independent cultural focus or as a complement to a day centred on the landscape.

In the centre of Mörbylånga, the gallery of glass artist Betina Huber displays art glass, lamps and jewellery. An appointment must be booked for a personal opening. Plan this visit specifically if you would like to include the gallery in your trip.

Harbour, Bathing Beach and Choosing Your Accommodation

Mörbylånga’s guest harbour is located on the west coast of Öland in the southern Kalmarsund. There are around 20 guest berths at the western quay. A bathing beach is also located in a northern part of Mörbylånga, beside a grassy embankment. This gives you different townscapes to choose from when planning your trip: the coastal stage of the Mörbylångaleden, the harbour area, the beach and the historic streets each suggest a different rhythm for the day.

When looking for your accommodation, you can first consider which of these aspects of Mörbylånga are particularly important to you. A holiday apartment, for example, suits a plan in which you want to divide several days between culture, hiking and the coast. For a varied trip, you can also combine the town’s history, studios and time at the bathing beach in your planning without giving every day the same programme.
