Bottnaryd combines tranquil forest landscapes, lakes and clearly visible traces of history. Those planning a trip with nature experiences, walks and cultural discoveries will find various opportunities here for spending days together. The Sjöboleden trail passes fishing lakes and follows forest paths through old woodland. Around Bottnaryd Church, by the water and along other paths, you can gain very different impressions of the town.

Forest Paths with Nature and History

The Sjöboleden is an interesting choice for anyone who wants to combine physical activity with regional history. At the beginning of the trail, there is a local history museum with old agricultural and household equipment. Along the Sjöboleden, signs also provide information about Iron Age graves, a quarry and a Bronze Age burial cairn. In spring, liverworts can be seen at Blåsippeberget on the Sjöboleden.

In the area around Bottnaryd lies Bottnaryds urskog, a very old coniferous forest shaped by age and wind. It is home to pines that are 300 to 400 years old and spruces up to 200 years old. A marked circular trail starts at the car park, is just over two kilometres long and leads through large parts of the Bottnaryds urskog nature reserve. Three-toed woodpeckers are regularly found in the area. West of the town also stands Prostatallen, also called Ullebotallen, which has existed since the 16th century.

Lakes, Swimming Areas and Paths for Different Day Plans

Pärlstigen, located centrally in Bottnaryd, leads around the lake near Bottnaryd Church and contains texts about the pearls of Frälsarkransen. There are two swimming areas along the path. A map brochure for Pärlstigen is available in a box at the church bell tower. This allows you to combine a walk by the water with a cultural stop in the town.

At the southern end of Lake Stråken, near Bottnaryd, is the Stråkenbadet outdoor swimming pool. The Kolarleden begins there. Signs along the Kolarleden provide information about flat drying, cement casting and tar burning. The Kolarleden can be reached by bus 131 to the Bottnaryd Nygatan stop. Those who prefer longer distances can consider the Södra Vätterleden, which runs between Bottnaryd and Huskvarna. Another path makes it possible to hike around Bergsjön in Bottnaryd.

Mörtsjöåsen and Skräcklagölen in the surrounding area also invite visitors to fish and hike in the forest. The area is one of the Swedish Church's foundation reserves. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between a short circular trail, a walk by the lake, a longer hike and nature-oriented excursions without losing sight of the character of the landscape.

Church and Historical Insights

Bottnaryd Church has extensive wall and ceiling paintings created by Anders Falck from Ulricehamn between 1693 and 1695. The church was built of wood after the medieval church was demolished in 1666. In summer, it is open daily; outside the summer season, it is open for services and holidays. You can contact the parish staff regarding additional opening times.

The former Ribbingska burial chapel is also located at Bottnaryd Church. It houses a small museum with many artefacts from the 17th century. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Bottnaryd can choose their accommodation based on their desired holiday activities: the town offers opportunities for forest hikes, water-based experiences and culture, while individual paths have very different focuses.
