Discover Gislaved: Trails, Art and Nature
Accommodation in Gislaved
Gislaved combines varied trails, art and landscapes with special insights into the history of the town. Those planning a trip with active routes, cultural discoveries and peaceful stays in the countryside will find various starting points for planning their days here. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore worth considering the personal focus of the trip.
Hiking between the town, the Nissan and long-distance trails
The Gislavedsleden is connected to Gislaved by a route that is just under 5 kilometres long. It runs through Stora Båraryd and connects to a walking and cycling path in the northern part of the town. Along the Gislavedsleden, there are rest areas with wind shelters and toilets. In the south, the trail is connected to the Hallandsleden; in the north, it connects via the Järnbärarleden to the Höglandsleden.
The Natur- und Kulturstig Nissan offers another perspective on the surroundings. The walking trail along the Nissan passes through natural and cultural landscapes that can be experienced and explored in a peaceful way. Dalenparken, Gislaved’s largest park, is also located along the Nissan. Large green spaces with sunny and shaded areas, seating by the water, a gravel football pitch, a boules court and an outdoor fitness area appeal to a range of interests.
The Anderstorps Stormosse nature reserve is located in the vicinity of Gislaved. The trail through the reserve begins about 1.5 kilometres from the edge of the town. From the car park, a path of about 350 metres leads to an accessible, two-storey birdwatching tower with a ramp to the lower platform. Those wishing to include nature observation in their travel plans can make this excursion a focus in its own right.
Art and history in Gislaved
Gislaveds Konsthall presents international, national and local art. The programme also includes an open workshop programme, which is free of charge. The public artwork Stjärnfall adds another highlight: it covers an area of almost 3,800 square metres and consists of 125 six-metre-high columns made of brushed stainless steel. The walk through the solar system is laid out at a scale of 1:1.5 billion and consists of stone installations.
History comes to life at the Gislaved Industrial Museum and the heritage park. The museum is housed in a former belt factory that is almost 100 years old. The heritage park consists of around ten buildings. Tingstensstugan was built there in 1845, while Orrastugan was moved to Gislaved’s heritage park in 1961. Next to the heritage park is an old stone circle that is now interpreted as a burial site.
Choose the right base for your trip
When choosing accommodation, you can first consider whether trails, nature observation, art or local history should take up the most space in your trip. Those combining different interests can include the destinations described in their own plans without structuring every day in the same way: a route on the Gislavedsleden or a walk along the Nissan can be followed by a visit to the Konsthall, the museum or the heritage park. Gislaved has, among other things, a tourist information centre and a bus station. These reference points will help you organise your excursions and your preferred daily rhythm locally.
