Hestra combines diverse nature experiences with concrete opportunities for active holiday days and cultural discoveries. The approximately 100-kilometre-long Gislavedsleden trail leads through the two nature reserves of Fegen and Isaberg. This gives the region a broad setting for a trip where you can combine landscapes, exercise and your own daily plans.

Highland trails and exceptional views

The Isaberg nature reserve rises 150 metres above the surrounding area and offers far-reaching views from the summit. Anyone planning the ascent as an experience in its own right can use the Jättetrappan: 500 steps lead 150 metres up to the summit. Another hiking trail on Isaberg runs along a wide gravel path and includes many metres of elevation gain. These different trail profiles help you choose your activity: you can deliberately plan a significant ascent or choose a route where the trail itself is the main focus.

This also makes it possible for families with different interests to set different priorities. While some travellers seek the ascent and the views, others may prefer an experience with more variety. Isaberg Tree Top Adventure includes 68 obstacles on seven courses, reaches heights of up to 16 metres and features a 117-metre-long zip line. The toboggan run at Isaberg consists of a one-kilometre-long track that winds down the mountain.

Water activities on the lake and river

Hestra is also a destination for days by the water. SUP paddling is possible on Algutstorpasjön. You can go canoeing on the Nissan, and there are also good fishing opportunities along the river. These activities appeal to different ideas of an active day: SUP paddling focuses on calmly moving across the lake, while a canoe trip on the Nissan offers an activity of its own, with the river serving as a point of reference. Those who prefer to linger can include fishing as a special part of their travel plans.

Culture as a peaceful contrast

Norra Hestra Church is one of the cultural highlights. The wooden church dates from 1752–1753 and has a freestanding bell tower. Its historic architecture complements the nature and activity offerings with a more peaceful place to visit. If you do not want every day of your trip to be the same, this allows you to add a cultural focus to your stay.

The right accommodation for your travel plans

When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Hestra, it is worth deciding on your preferred mix of activities first. If highland trails and views are the priority, Jättetrappan, the wide gravel path and the activities at Isaberg should fit into your plans. For days focused on the water, Algutstorpasjön and the Nissan are important search terms. Anyone wishing to combine nature, exercise and history can also include Norra Hestra Church in their personal selection.
