Ånn lies on the northern shore of Lake Ånnsjön and brings together water, wetlands and a mountain landscape in a compact area with a range of attractions. Lake Ånnsjön and the surrounding wetlands form a wetland area of around ten square kilometres. Almost the entire Ramsar site at Lake Ånnsjön is designated as a Natura 2000 site. The Enadeltat and Halsnäsdeltat areas make up the bird protection area at Lake Ånnsjön. Anyone planning a trip to Ånn will find a place where nature experiences, active days and historical discoveries stand side by side.

Trails by the lake and into the mountain landscape

For initial orientation, Lake Ånnsjön can be reached from Ånn railway station; the way there is signposted. The Fågelstigen trail below Ånn railway station leads as a hiking trail to the wetlands at Lake Ånnsjön. Another hiking option is nearby Storsnasen: there is an easy hike with views over the valley, Lake Ånnsjön and Åre. Ånn is also a starting point for mountain hikes to several nearby, easily climbed peaks, including Storsnasen.

From the Enan car park, trails lead towards Sylarnas Fjällstation, Silverfallet and Storulvåns Fjällstation. These destinations offer another way to plan your stay according to the desired scope of your activities, without making every day the same. Ånn also offers opportunities for cycling and has a prepared, illuminated trail.

Water activities, fishing and traces of history

Lake Ånnsjön offers various access points to the water. Arctic char and trout can be caught there; Klocka Gård is a place to arrange boat rental for fishing in Ånn. Lake Ånnsjön and its surroundings also offer opportunities for kayaking. Käringnäset is an excursion destination that can be reached by kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard. There are historical rock carvings there dating back to around 2000 BC. This makes it possible to combine an active outing with a glimpse into the early history of the landscape.

For a stay that includes a quieter segment, Österbåtstan is also one of the possible destinations. Österbåtstan is a local bathing area with two jetties. There is also a sauna there; the area is managed by Vallans Samfällighet. Winter in and around Ånn

In winter, long-distance skating takes place on Lake Ånnsjön. There are several well-prepared snowmobile trails around Ånn, with views of the mountain landscape. This means that, alongside the summer activities on the lake, winter activities are also available. Anyone looking for accommodation for a trip at this time of year can therefore consider whether the focus should be more on the lake, the trails or the snowmobile routes.

Getting there and choosing the right base

Ånn can be reached by car, train or bus. Travelling by train in particular connects the village directly with an important point of orientation on site, as the route to Lake Ånnsjön is signposted from the railway station. When looking for a holiday apartment in Ånn or other accommodation, you can therefore first consider which experiences should shape your stay: hikes and summits, fishing and kayaking, historical rock carvings, a bathing area and sauna, or winter long-distance skating.

The birdlife is also part of the character of the surrounding area. A bird station was established in Handöl on Lake Ånnsjön in 1988. Research projects on the development of bird populations take place there every year, and interested people can take part. This aspect adds a natural-history perspective to the landscape and offers a special opportunity to experience Lake Ånnsjön not only as an excursion destination, but also as a habitat.
