In Enviken, folk music and rockabilly meet historic churches, local cultural history and hiking trails. If you enjoy combining different discoveries on holiday, you’ll find inspiration here for cultural days as well as trips into nature. Which holiday apartment in Enviken is right for your trip also depends on whether you’d rather explore the area’s stories or spend time on the hiking trails.

Churches and living culture

Enviken’s old church was built mainly between 1669 and 1673 as the first church on this site. The wooden building has a rectangular nave and a straight-ended chancel. The sacristy and porch are located to the north and south, respectively, while a narrower tower stands at the west end. Under Chapter 4 of Sweden’s Cultural Heritage Act (KML), the church is protected as a cultural heritage site. Envikens kyrka is also part of the area’s history: it was inaugurated in 1957.

Enviken’s cultural life includes vibrant folk music stages and a lively rockabilly scene rooted in the 1950s. Another glimpse into local history can be found at the forestry museum in Göras Trösklada. It describes forestry in the area from the 1850s until mechanisation around 1960. At Görasgården, the local heritage association holds the Göras Days, featuring various activities and coffee service; Görasgården was inaugurated in 1984.

Fäbod culture is also a distinctive part of the area’s cultural history: since late 2024, it has been included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Grejsans fäbod is located in Enviken, in Falun Municipality. Fäbod culture traditionally focused on producing butter, cheese and messmör. This tradition offers a different way to discover the area than its church and forestry history, and may influence your choice between a cultural holiday and days focused more on hiking.

Hikes of varying lengths

You can hike the Pilgrimsleden in Enviken. The trail is 24 kilometres long, easy to walk and marked in orange. Its length gives you a useful guide for planning your day. The Torsktjärnsrundan is shorter, at five kilometres: it links two old hiking trails towards Arnbo and Gårdvik. The starting point is the car park at Enviken gamla kyrka; orange markings show the way. From Torsktjärnsberget, the circular route offers views of Enviken and the surrounding area.

Another hike runs from Kurberget via Alderbacka to Spjärshällen and through the Spjärshällen Nature Reserve. The landscape there is characterised by bogs and old spruce forest. Spjärshällen is part of the Natura 2000 network of protected natural areas. At Spjärshällen, which lies 506 metres above sea level, there is an observation tower; there is also a wind shelter where overnight stays are possible. The hike is accessible via Enviken.

More outdoor experiences

Fishing is possible in Marnäsån; a fishing licence is required. Klockarnäs Enviken is also listed as a bathing spot in Falun Municipality for water activities. The Balungen–Runn canoe route starts at Balungstrand. A snowmobile trail runs through the northern part of the Spjärshällen Nature Reserve, between Enviken/Linghed and Svartnäs. These options offer different ways to spend time outdoors; choose your accommodation based on the focus you want for your trip rather than using a single outing as your benchmark.

Enviksdagen also offers a cultural event: it is held on a Saturday in May. Activities include a classic car parade, a flea market and events for children. If this event is important to your trip, take the stated day into account when planning.
