Náquera: Hiking Trails, Viewpoints and Culture

Nature and Trails

A longer circular route is the Ruta del Salt PR-CV-329. It is 10.53 km long, has a low to moderate difficulty level and takes around 3 hours and 10 minutes. The route follows the Barranco del Salt and heads back towards Náquera. It also leads to the viewpoint and Parador de Fenassar, which is associated with impressive views.

The Pi del Salt, a monumental pine tree, stands along the Ruta del Salt PR-CV-329. The tree is classified as a tree of local interest. The Ruta Creueta is 4.2 km long, has a moderate difficulty level and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. On Mount Pinar, it reaches La Creueta, located at an altitude of 430 metres, from where extensive views can be enjoyed.

The Ruta Penya Roja is a 1 km-long walk with a low difficulty level and a duration of about 1 hour. From the summit of Penya Roja, views extend over the comarca, the Gulf of Valencia, the Valencia plain and the surrounding mountain ranges. The Fuente del Oro route is 890 metres long, has a low difficulty level and takes a total of 40 minutes. Due to its distance, it is intended for bicycles or horses. The viewpoint at the Ermita offers panoramic views of the Gulf of Valencia.

History and Culture

The Posiciones defensivas Cabeç Bord form an educational open-air museum of the military architecture of the Spanish Civil War. The defensive positions at Cabeç Bord were built by the Republicans in mid-1938 in connection with the offensive on Valencia, serving as an advanced base in the final defensive belt to protect the city. From Náquera, the trenches at Cabeç Bord can be reached by car via the Camí de la Patà; a roughly 3 km-long gravel track then leads to a car park, from where the route continues on foot.

The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación in Náquera originated in the 18th century and was completed in 1757. The present Ermita de San Francisco de Asís was built in 1912, rebuilt about a decade later after collapsing and designed in the Neogothic style. The present Calvario was laid out between the late 19th and early 20th centuries and comprises 14 stations made of tiles and glazed roof tiles.

In the centre of Náquera, narrow streets preserve the recognisable medieval layout; several remains of this layout have been uncovered. In the La Carrasca area, villas from the late 19th century have been preserved. They represent early second homes and feature elements of Modernisme as well as, in some cases, Art Deco.

Festivals and Local Life

Náquera's patron saint festivities include liturgies, fireworks, public meals and dinners, performances, traditional music and dances, as well as a fancy-dress parade. Náquera has three Fallas commissions; the Fallas celebrations include a fancy-dress parade through the town's main streets on 18 March. At Náquera's twice-yearly Fallas celebration at the end of October, the programme includes the Plantà, processions and the Cremà.
