Burjassot: Culture, Gardens and Special Places
Burjassot presents three distinct aspects in its special places: cultural history, natural history and designed green spaces. For your planning, you can compare culture, nature and leisure as separate themes.
Culture and History
Los Silos originated from three underground grain silos built in 1573. At Los Silos, the hemispherical stone covers of 41 silos are visible on an almost square, paved terrace measuring approximately 75 metres on each side. The interior of Los Silos can be visited as part of an initiative by the Municipal Institute of Culture and Youth of Burjassot.
The Natural History Museum of the Universitat de València (M(UV)HN) is located on the Burjassot campus and offers guided tours and workshops by arrangement. Its location on the campus also places the museum within the university setting.
Nature
L’Eixereta Garden is located in the north of Burjassot and represents the last remaining part of the original Mediterranean forest that gave Burjassot its name. L’Eixereta Garden was transformed into a public garden and essentially preserves the original vegetation; later improvements were intended to increase its scientific, ecological, landscape and educational value. L’Eixereta Garden features Mediterranean lowland vegetation known as “Máquia”, including mastic shrubs, aladierno shrubs and stone pines.
The combination of origins, garden development and plant life offers three different ways of interpreting the same place. Those who prefer to focus on landscapes rather than buildings can make these nature-related themes their main focus.
Leisure
Dehesa del Castell is a recreational area with a picnic and rest area. Dehesa del Castell is open on alternate weekends. Parque Municipal La Granja offers a ride on a steam railway through the park.
The leisure destinations differ in the way they are described: Dehesa del Castell combines a recreational area with a picnic and rest area, while La Granja mentions the steam railway through the park. The alternating opening of Dehesa is one of the details that can be taken into account when planning your schedule.
With different preferences, you can use culture, nature and leisure as separate planning priorities. The choice remains open: you can start with a historical site or give different weight to the museum, garden and park. What matters is not a ranking, but the theme you want to place in the foreground.
Other Places
Other places in the surrounding area include Tavernes De La Valldigna, Mareny Blau, Piles, Alboraya, Palma de Gandía, Corbera, Aielo de Malferit and Camp de Túria.
