The selection of destinations can be viewed through buildings and places of remembrance as well as through links to nature and wine; individual routes and events add their own distinctive touches.

Culture

The Torre del Rellotge was built in 1743, houses the town clock and bells, and is 18 metres high. The Fondó air-raid shelter was built in 1938 and now houses a permanent exhibition with drawings by children from the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) and the Syrian War (2010).

The Ermita de Santa Bárbara in Monóvar is an 18th-century building whose design follows Valencian Baroque style and shows a clear influence of Italian Baroque and Neoclassicism. Today, the Ermita de Santa Bárbara is recognised as a Bien de Interés Cultural.

Routes

The Azorín Route is an approximately one-hour, self-guided walking tour through Monóvar that can be followed independently using a smartphone and includes seven different stops.

At the Paraje Natural Municipal Monte Coto, mountain sports such as climbing and hiking are practised; several interconnected hiking trails include the PRV-166 Almorquí-Cavafría-Tres Fuentes, the PRV-3 Pinoso-Los Tres Fuentes-Pinoso and the long-distance GR-7 trail.

The municipal hiking guide comprises 19 routes, including the officially approved trails PRV-107 “Ruta del Xirivell” and PRV-177 “Sierra del Reclot”, which run entirely through the municipality of Monóvar.

The different formats can be distinguished by duration, independence and route, helping you organise your own daily rhythm. For planning purposes, you can also choose between a smartphone walking tour, mountain sports, interconnected hiking trails and longer municipal routes.

Nature

The Paraje Natural Municipal Monte Coto is home to more than 100 bird species and around 700 plant species, including the Portuguese oak (Quercus faginea) in the Barranco de la Quitranera.

Wine and Events

Monóvar is a founding member of the Ruta del Vino de Alicante. Bodegas Alejandro in Manya, Monóvar, offers wine tourism, guided tours and a shop.

On one weekend, the townscape of Monóvar is transformed into a medieval setting with a large arts and crafts and gastronomy market; on another weekend, a large cultural fair takes place.

Accommodation

When booking a holiday apartment in Monóvar, you can compare travel dates, room categories and cancellation policies on the offer pages. These three details make different offer pages easier to understand, while you can define the thematic focus of your stay based on culture, nature, routes, wine and events. Depending on your preferred rhythm, you can combine the focus areas in different ways: historic sites and exhibitions sit alongside nature observation, sporting routes, wine experiences and the two weekends featuring a market or cultural fair. This keeps the choice open between cultural impressions, physical activity, landscapes and time-specific events.
