At the northern end of Serra Gelada Nature Park stands the Faro de l’Albir lighthouse. The Faro de l’Albir was built in 1863 beside the ruins of the 16th-century watchtower at Punta Bombarda. The lighthouse houses an interpretation centre. The Ruta del Faro del Albir corresponds to the official red route of Serra Gelada Nature Park.

For personal day planning, this information can be understood as separate focuses on the natural environment, architectural history, interpretation and route guidance.

Culture and History

The Museo Villa Romana de l’Albir can be visited without a guide; along the tour, information panels are provided in Spanish, Valencian and English. The museum was recognised as the first open-air museum in the Comunitat Valenciana. In the vicinity of Playa de l’Albir, it offers an insight into the Roman baths at the thermal complex, which were built more than 1,500 years ago.

The Torre Bombarda is part of the coast’s history. It formed part of the coastal defence system established in the 16th century to protect the population of Altea from repeated attacks by Berber pirates. The Torre Bombarda is designated a B.I.C. (Bien de Interés Cultural, Asset of Cultural Interest).

To put cultural sites into context, it is helpful to distinguish them by period, architectural purpose and museum interpretation.

Nature and Activities

The sustainable leisure area of Cantera de l'Albir features picnic tables, a viewpoint and a 30-metre-high vertical via ferrata. The leisure area can be reached by vehicle via Calle Estrella Polar No. 7 in l'Albir. The Centro de Interpretación Paisajística y Medioambiental (CIPM) “Los Carrascos” is an outdoor classroom aimed particularly at children and young people. It includes an area with endemic plants.

The named facilities place different emphasis on views, spending time outdoors, vertical activity and environmental interpretation; when planning your day, you can weigh these options separately.

A holiday apartment in L'Albir can feature in a personal travel plan alongside different ideas for the day. Travel dates, room category and cancellation policies are separate details of the respective offers. Nature, culture, environmental education and the coast remain distinct focuses that can be arranged according to the preferred daily rhythm, without mixing up the places described.

Coast

At Playa de l’Albir, wooden walkways extend almost to the water’s edge and provide access for both pushchairs and wheelchairs. Playa de l’Albir has a play area for children. The coastal information distinguishes between physical access, children’s area and beach type; you can consider these criteria separately. For different daily rhythms, the beach information can be considered separately from the nature and cultural stops. Playa Racó de l'Albir is an urban beach.
