Culture and History

The historical development of Dolores de Pacheco is connected with a former estate that belonged to the Roda family. At the end of the 16th century, the Roda family built a hermitage dedicated to the memory of the Virgen de los Remedios. Between 1720 and 1725, a new hermitage dedicated to the Virgen de los Dolores was built; it was given the name “Ermita Nueva”. On 16 October 1908, this “Ermita Nueva” was elevated from a dependent chapel of the parish of Torre Pacheco to a rectory church with its own baptismal chapel.

The Iglesia Parroquial Ntra. Sra. de los Dolores in Dolores de Pacheco is listed with the Regional Historic Heritage Service. The parish church of Ntra. Sra. de los Dolores is of Baroque origin and has interconnected chapels, an altarpiece and a camarín.

The Capilla-Cripta de los Ayuso, also known as the “Capilla del Calvario”, was built at the end of the 18th century as a pantheon for the Ayuso family. The Casa de los Palarea is one of the listed heritage sites of Dolores de Pacheco. Finca la Molina is also one of these listed heritage sites and was a place of recreation and inspiration for its owner, the Murcian painter Sánchez Molina. The Ayuso Chapel preserves paintings by Querubina Ayuso, dated and signed 1887.
