A fixed date in Isaba is the Tributo de las Tres Vacas: it takes place every year on 13 July at boundary marker 262 on the summit of Piedra de San Martin. Isaba leads the participating places of the Roncal together with Uztarroz, Urzainqui and Garde.

Culture and History

The Casa de la Memoria Museum in Isaba conveys the history and way of life of the people of the Roncal and displays, among other things, historical traditional clothing from the Roncal. The fortified Church of San Cipriano was built from ashlar stones in the 15th century. Its furnishings include a Plateresque altarpiece created in 1537 and a Baroque organ dated 1751.

In the upper part of Isaba, the remains of a former castle have been preserved; it once dominated the town. The Ermita de Idoia is located about one kilometre from Isaba; the GR-11 hiking trail runs through the area. The Día de la Indumentaria Roncalesa, held every August, presents various episodes from the history of Isaba and the Roncal Valley in scenic form.

Trails and Hiking Times

Isaba has an extensive network of marked and officially certified hiking trails that can be used year-round. The hiking network within the municipality includes the 14.6-kilometre Isaba–Belagua–Arrakogoiti route, with a stated walking time of 5 hours and 21 minutes. The SL Idoia hiking trail is 2.1 kilometres long and has a stated walking time of 60 minutes. The different route lengths and walking times provide a direct comparison for planning your own day.

Nature

The Camino de Zemeto trail runs along the Larra Nature Reserve through karst landscapes and extensive pastureland and leads to the Larra-Belagua viewpoint. The Aztaparreta Integral Protection Area is located in Isaba and includes ecologically particularly interesting beech, fir and black pine forests on limestone, as well as populations of black woodpecker, white-backed woodpecker, red deer, chamois and roe deer.

Cycling and Winter

The Centro de BTT Larra Belagua comprises 18 marked routes in the Roncal Valley, with a total of 160 kilometres of roads and trails, including routes in Isaba and Belagua. Since 1993, Isaba has been the venue every September for the recurring cycling event Larra Larrau. The Larra-Belagua enduro route starts in Isaba, is 20.67 kilometres long, has a high difficulty level and returns to Isaba at the end.

The Larra Belagua Nordic Ski Centre is located 22 kilometres from Isaba at Puerto de Belagua, at an altitude of 1,600 metres, and offers more than 20 kilometres of ski runs suitable for skiing.

Local Production

Quesería Ekia in Isaba offers an interpretive tour of the production of Roncal cheese, as well as a tasting of three varieties with different maturation periods, accompanied by artisanally produced bread from the region.

From Pamplona to Isaba, one possible route leads via the A-21 towards Jaca, exit 35 at Lumbier, the NA-178 to Navascués, Puerto de las Coronas, Burgui and then the NA-137.
