Laguna de Cameros: Holiday apartment between church and starry sky

The Parque Estelar de Laguna de Cameros offers a designated place to experience the starry sky and is one of the places with some of the darkest skies in La Rioja. Laguna de Cameros lies in the Río Leza drainage basin in the Camero Viejo region.

Nature

The Santa Apolonia recreation area can be reached from Laguna de Cameros by passing through the village in the direction of Puerto de Piqueras and taking the track to the hermitage. The vegetation there includes riverside poplar groves, Pyrenean oak forests and rockrose scrub.

The sixth stage of the Laguna de Cameros–San Román de Cameros route begins in the square opposite the church of Laguna de Cameros and leaves the village along the old road to Tejada. The Laguna de Cameros dinosaur site lies on a steep slope above the Río Leza and comprises 27 footprints left in the flooded sediment.

Culture

The Iglesia parroquial de la Asunción dates from the first half of the 16th century and was later remodelled in the 18th century. The church also contains a 12th-century baptismal font.

Laguna de Cameros has traditional houses in the Cameros style, some of which bear coats of arms. The Señorío del Solar de Tejada is a lordship of immemorial origin and continuous historical development; its shared identity is rich in history and traditions and originated in the heart of Camero Viejo.

The cultural heritage of the Solar de Tejada was classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural by the Government of La Rioja in 2016. The Ermita de Santo Domingo de Laguna de Cameros is associated with the tradition that Santo Domingo de Silos lived as a hermit in the village.
