In the Barrio de Abajo district of El Poyo, you can see old houses that illustrate traditional Alistanian architecture. El Poyo is divided into two districts: Barrio de Abajo and Barrio de Arriba, which is also colloquially known as “Corea”. Reading the village through its architectural forms and names provides two different reference points for the same visit.

Landscape

El Poyo lies in the transition zone between the extensive Campo Aliste plain, the Aliste River basin, which does not reach the village, and the Manzanas River basin, to which the village belongs.

El Poyo is situated in a relatively elevated area and is flanked by two riverside areas. The two bodies of water associated with El Poyo merge downstream near Nuez de Aliste.

New buildings have changed El Poyo’s traditional rural landscape through the demolition of older houses and other buildings. El Poyo lies in one of the highest areas of the region, which makes it difficult to take a representative photograph showing much of the village centre.

Cycling and routes

The Aliste B7 mountain biking route is a 21 km circular route with an approximate duration of two hours. During the final 4.4 km of the Aliste B7 route, the trail follows the road from El Poyo to San Vitero. The Aliste B7 route runs mostly along well-marked paths; on a section of approximately 350 m, you must dismount and cross a small wall.

The information about the circular route, total length and approximate duration helps you form an idea of the scope of a stage. The route description can be read separately from the village and cultural points, allowing you to compare different priorities.
