History and Festivals

Arroyo de la Encomienda is home to the Iglesia de San Juan Ante Portam Latinam, a Romanesque church dating from the mid-12th century. It is also Arroyo de la Encomienda’s most important monumental building.

The remains of the Monasterio de Santa Ana de La Flecha include the former church and part of the convent building. Until the Desamortización of 1835, the former buildings of the Priorato de San Pedro de La Flecha belonged to the Hieronymite community of Nuestra Señora del Prado de Valladolid. Archaeological remains from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods in the municipality show that the area was inhabited during these periods. The Fiestas del Santo Patrón, held in honour of San Juan Ante Portam Latinam, take place on 6 May. In La Flecha, San Antonio de Padua is celebrated on 13 June.

Nature and Landscape

The Ribera del Pisuerga is classified as an “Área de Singular Valor Ecológico” (Area of Special Ecological Value). The Monasterio de Santa Ana de La Flecha is situated on a wooded bend in the river with a pesquera. At the Río Pisuerga, you can spend time in direct contact with nature.

The Jardín Botánico covers more than 12,000 m². From 2 October to 14 May, it is open Monday to Saturday from 12:00 to 14:30 and from 16:00 to 18:30, as well as on Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 15:00. Cerro de la Horca is one of Arroyo de la Encomienda’s specially protected natural areas. El Cotarro de la Horca has walking paths and a viewpoint overlooking an irrigation water reservoir. The area around Rodastillo lies at its confluence with the Río Pisuerga.

Active Experiences

Campo Municipal de Golf Sotoverde is an executive golf course with 18 holes and a par of 60; the approximately 3,100-metre round is designed for players of all skill levels. The 2026 edition of the IX Arroyada Trail includes a 25.5-kilometre long trail, a 15-kilometre short trail and a non-competitive hiking route, also measuring 15 kilometres.

The 25.5-kilometre route of the IX Arroyada Trail runs through Arroyo de la Encomienda, Zaratán, Ciguñuela and Simancas. Parque del Socayo has a 1,000-metre running track. The different distances and the separate hiking route can be compared side by side when planning your day.
