Nature and Landscape

Pinedas combines distinctive landscape features with a defined townscape. The Camino de los Enamorados crosses the Sierra de Francia nature reserve. The Río Alagón runs through the municipality of Pinedas and thus forms another geographical feature of the area. Los Canchitos is a viewpoint overlooking the Río Alagón valley. From there, there are views of the Sierra de Francia and the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra de Béjar.

The landscape can therefore be experienced from different perspectives: the Camino represents the route through the nature reserve, the Río Alagón the course of the river, Los Canchitos the view over the valley, and the named mountain ranges the wider mountain backdrop.

Townscape and Historical Traces

In the centre of Pinedas, Arab influences can be seen in the winding streets and simple houses made of clay and stone. The parish church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves in Pinedas dates from the 16th century. A small tunnel connects Calle Larga with Pinedas's main square, known as La Callecita. The townscape thus brings together historic architectural forms, a religious building and a specific connection between two street spaces.

Older traces can also be found in the surrounding area. Megalithic dolmens are located in Castrejón near Pinedas. Part of the wall of the settlement of El Maginario dates from the 6th century BC. The Camino de los Enamorados commemorates the couple Hortensia and Kiko, who came from Pinedas. The festival of the Virgen de las Nieves takes place on 4 and 5 August.

Cultural Destinations in the Wider Region

The wider regional area around Pinedas is home to Iglesia de Santiago Museo Sacro and Museo Judío David Melul, both museums. Also located there are Palace of the Dukes of Béjar, a palace, and Parroquia Santa María la Mayor, a church. These destinations represent different cultural forms: museum collections, a historic palace and a religious site can be clearly distinguished from one another.

The wider regional area also includes the Sierra de Francia, a mountain range, La Hastiala, a mountain, Canchal de la Ceja, a mountain, and Torreón del Calvitero, a summit. The selection of named destinations therefore ranges from museums and buildings to mountains and summits. Those wishing to weigh up nature, local history and regional culture when planning their trip will find different thematic focuses in these names rather than a single type of excursion.
