Trails and River Courses
In Valderrueda, the 31.7 km stage Guardo – Puente Almuhey via Velilla del Río Carrión runs through the area. It passes through Caminayo, Morgovejo, La Sota and Valderrueda before entering Puente Almuhey.
An 8 km section between the Las Conjas gorge and Puente Almuhey follows the course of the Cea and includes Valderrueda among the places along the route. Another route between Puente Almuhey and Prioro also passes through Valderrueda.
The Cañada Real Leonesa Oriental crosses the Cea at Valderrueda and then continues through Soto de Valderrueda and Cegoñal. You can consider the different distances, river connections and sequences of places separately when planning your days on foot.
Culture and History
Tarusa is a variant of the skittles game played in the municipalities of Valderrueda and Carande, in which the skittle is moved from within a circle. The Leonese Aluches were practiced in Valderrueda. Historically, Valderrueda competed in the Aluches against an alliance of all the others.
One of the two old buildings highlighted on the municipal route is the casa rectoral. Next to the church is the panera rectoral, where the tithe was formerly paid.
The Palacio del Arzobispo Bullón is a palace in the surroundings of Valderrueda. In Valdetuéjar, the Casa Palacio de los Marqueses de Prado de Renedo de Valdetuéjar was built in the 16th and 17th centuries.
